Admit It, You Want A Wii U For Bayonetta 2

As I understand it, if Nintendo hadn't helped out, Bayonetta 2 never would've happened.

Okay. Now it's making non-Wii U owners insanely jealous.

If you hadn't noticed, the slick action sequel is the new darling of video game critics. In fact, with its 91 Metacritic rating, it's statistically the highest-rated new game in 2014. The Last Of Us: Remastered, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition; yeah, see, these don't count. Anyway, with absolute perfect scores from The Guardian, Edge, and Destructoid, along with 24 reviews over a 9, it's clear that this game is pretty darn incredible.

Hey, I was one of many who loved the original. I said at the time that it featured the single deepest, most intricate, most rewarding combat mechanic of any action game I'd ever seen. And evidently, the critics say you get that and more with the sequel...too bad I'd have to use that stupid Wii U controller. It's also too bad that such a game couldn't take advantage of PlayStation 4 hardware; can you imagine what this bad boy would've looked like if it had?! It's a huge loss for PlayStation and Xbox as far as I'm concerned, and a huge gain for Nintendo. Although I still question what percentage of avid Wii U players are even interested in the game.

At any rate, I bet a lot of hardcore action fanatics out there who don't own a Wii U (and really, if you're a big action fan, why would you?) are tempted. Just admit it. I am.

Getting a system for one game (if you don't' like Nintendo first party stuff)is pretty ridiculous, especially if that game series is originally a rip off of a much better game series(DMC). Sure it looks nice and shiny, still don't want it though.

The game is made by the same guy that made Devil May Cry. He just can't use DMC because Capcom owns the license.

A rip off? The same guy (Hideki Kamiya) who made DMC good is the guy who also created Bayonetta.

And DMC isn't good anymore (and will never be without Kamiya at the helm). While we know for a fact that Bayonetta (and now it's sequel) is very good. And is everything DMC was meant to be.

Considering the excellent reviews for it, and the fact that it reportedly features the definitive edition of the original game, I am damn tempted. Although there isn't a whole lot else on the WiiU to justify the purchase right now.

Both reportedly great games, but, as a rule, I don't play with others. Right now, the only other game currently available that interests me is The Wonderful 101 (and that's not a system seller by any measure), although SMTxFE, Devil's Third, and the new Xenoblade and Zelda games are intriguing. I just don't see enough on the system to sell me.

bigrailer,

Partly time. Mostly because I don't really get that much of a kick out of it. Playing with other people can be fun, but the novelty always wears off in under an hour for me, so I just don't do it.

I'm most certainly tempted. Bayonetta 2 and Fatal Frame (and maybe an eventual Zelda) may push me to get a Wii U, but not yet.

Right now, seems like a waste for a great game like that to be exclusively on Wii U. But Wii U is in desperate need of great games, so good on them.

Well let's go back at how Bayo 2 ended up on the Wi U.

1. Platinum Games was developing Bayo 2 as a multiplatform game. But SEGA pulled the plug and refused to finance it any more. SEGA was going through some economic troubles and needed to cut some projects to get out of the red.

2. Platinum Games then offered the game to other companies (not named Nintendo) to help save the project. There were no takers. Nobody wanted it.

3. Platinum Games didn't want to crap what they had done and were getting desperate. Someone suggested offering the game to Nintendo. They had nothing to lose so they went ahead and asked.

4. Nintendo knew that the Bayonetta IP wasn't exactly a system seller, but they wanted to diversify the Wii U's library of games. So they accepted to finance and fund the game to completion. Bayonetta 2 was saved.

So, this game that is currently getting high marks at metacritic, would've been dead and buried if not for the Wii U. It now exists. And it now can be played.

It will never be ported to a non-Nintendo system though. Nintendo owns the code for the game. That was part of the deal. We might get Bayo 3. But never 2, unless Ninty sells their rights for it.

for me it's a nice perk but I don't like the franchise enough to buy a system for it.
i'll get a Wii U eventually but that has nothing to do with Bayo 2, even if I'd probably play it at some point after having the system.

EDIT: and another reason for this is because I feel like the days I run out and buy a system because a game scores well is done. I'm sitting here playing Destiny, a lesser rated game, while TLoU sits unfinished. It's nothing against TLoU I just play what I feel like right now where one man's misery is another man's treasure (or something like that)

You don't have to use the "stupid Wii U controller". There are pro controllers available for the system.

This just adds another great game to the Wii U's growing library. I'm sure they'll port it to the PS4 and Xbox one eventually, though.

$300 for a Wii U 32GB
$50 for Bayonetta
$50 for a Pro Controller
Total = $400 (before tax)
(pricing is current at Amazon)

Nintendo are they only folk that still care about local multiplayer. Even with the PS3 it was quite the chore finding split screen multiplayer games. Don't people play with each other anymore? It's for this reason that I got the Wii U.

I'm definitely pumped for Bayonetta 2. And let me just add people that "I've got a fever....and they only cure for it is more... dead angels".

And also this game would have never existed without Nintendo's help? Isn't that an indication of what our great industry has become; that perhaps the passion to create has become subservient to financial gain; and by becoming a slave, passion, life's secret beating heart, beats inaudibly to the distorted rhythm of greed, and in doing so loses herself; that impetus to create; that desire to craft greatness and unite itself with all that compromises beauty.

Servitude to financial gain greatly hinders creativity and passion. Of course I do not deny that money is important. But it isn't important enough to rule us entirely.

If we are too afraid to create new things, we wont get anything new. I hope our industry wakes up to this truth.

Ben there are already Third-party Gamecube controller adapters and Nintendo themselves are releasing an official one with the Launch of Smash Bros. Wii U so even more of a reason to get it.

I am heavily debating getting one now with both this and Smash Bros. on the way.

It's the only console that feels new this gen in my opinion. With the exception of MGS5 all the PS4 games I've played either feel last gen or are last gen. The PS4(as of now)lacks games like Wonderful 101, Bayonetta, Pikmin, SM3DW and fun social interaction like Miiverse.

The game pad isn't madatory. The other controller options will work. Even the classic pro controller for Wii is compatible. I brushed off Bayonetta last gen because of that wretched port on the PS3 but after playing the Bayonetta 2 demo and witnessing the massive performance improvements(fluid 60fps, zero screen tearing, tons of on screen action) I'm sold. The Nintendo content added into both games is a huge plus too. She can summon Bowser. :) Gonna preorder the game this week.

Another title that further solidifies the Wii U as the leader in exclusive content for the eighth generation and Nintendo as the premiere publisher out of all console manufacturers. Followed by Microsoft and then Sony bringing up the rear. Sony needs to step it up. And I say this as a gamer with a deep love and respect for them. It's not hate or fanboyism for another company that makes me a harsh critic. Being a Sony fan does not mean I have to put blinders on like a dope and ignore their shortcomings because they own Naughty Dog. DriveClub is a complete debacle and under Sony's watchful eye should have been perfection. After years I've grown to expect that from them. But this recent spat of success has brought their post PS2 pre PS3 arrogance back to the surface. Should be addressed, if anyone in the so called 'gaming press' had real courage to withstand the deluge of sulfur and brimstone from the doofuses and sheep known as the Sony fanboy. But that surely won't happen. Ever.

Back on topic, Bayonetta 2 should be one of the best experiences of 2014 and I think that would hold up even in a year that wasn't as devoid of blockbusters as this. Platinum is the very best in the business in terms of real time action and title diversity. No one is on their level. Excited to see what Kamiya and Platinum deliver with Scalebound.

I just want to understand:

Nintendo is #1 because they've relied on the same franchises and characters for three decades, and Microsoft is #2 right now because of a small handful of exclusives, all of which have mediocre review scores with the exception of Titanfall, which wasn't that much better than inFamous: Second Son.

Is that correct?

Way off in that call, Kid. Nintendo continues only because of younger generations. If they kept rebooting the same titles with an older target demographic, then their tactics would fail miserably.

While it's hard to argue about the MS vs Sony debate (due to your choice of gaming genres), I think gaming exclusivity is Sony's throne. They've pretty much dictated diverse gaming for the past 3 generations. Whether or not their offerings intrigued you is a matter of opinion.

never really been a big bayonetta fan either, its a nice fast paced action game but it just feels far too simplistic and repetitive to be engaging and enjoying.
like the amazing spiderman, not so amazing just smash one button as fast as you can and your suddenly pulling off all these cool acrobatical moves.
wheres the fun in that?
pass, wake me up when ninty finally wake up to themselves and give us what people really buy ninty consoles for.
