Name One Game That Fails The Test Of Time

Nostalgia will always play a role with our favorite games but sometimes, even our fondest memories can't overcome the ultimate test: Time.

So, here's your chance to name one game that, in your estimation, has completely failed that test. It's a game you once adored but perhaps you've tried to go back to it recently, and just couldn't play it.

That happened to me with the original PlayStation title, Fighting Force. I remember seeing it for a few bucks on the PSN last year and the title triggered an onslaught of memories. I suddenly remembered playing this game endlessly, both solo and with a friend; I was always the big dude and I had a blast. I could easily beat the game and I did so at least a dozen times. Playing with someone else was super fun, too, and it was the local multiplayer game of choice for a while, even managing to replace Twisted Metal 2. Well, we eventually went back to TM2 because it's obviously a superior game (and we knew that at the time) but even so, Fighting Force was just the bomb.

And as it's one of the very few games that have mysteriously disappeared from my collection, I gleefully paid the few bucks and started downloading. I couldn't wait for it to finish so I could go through my ol' favorite again. ...but in about a half-hour, the system was off and my memories, while still there, were bittersweet. I mean, it was just unplayable. I couldn't do it at all. The response time was so ridiculous I could probably go do my laundry between the press of a button and an actual punch. I'd forgotten that we'd just learned to deal with horrendous cameras, so having the majority of foes coming out of nowhere to hit me got old real fast. Then you've got the crap-ass collision detection the whole way 'round and stunningly bad graphics (I can still play TM2 but not this), so the whole endeavor was a miserable flop.

It was kinda depressing. This ever happen to you? If so, which game did it?

For some retarded reason I skipped out on this one back in the day even though it had my name written all over it. I think I took a a review or two to heart that bashed it.

It's happened to me for a number of games. Not that they left me feeling abysmal, but just forgetting how challenged it was in ways.

Shenmue's old tank controls come to mind.
DC's Sonic Adventure had a crap camera upon revisiting it. Crap-crap.

Well, both of my 2 PS3 choices aren't that old, but I still disliked playing either of them

In 2nd place:

"Rouge warrior"

I was hoping that since this was about a member of seal Team 6, that it would be exceptional, but it wound up as a cringe-worthy mess, due to him slinging the "F" word out from his mouth every couple words or so.
And for me, the game became only about how many times the "F" word was uttered, rather than any of the actual gameplay.
(And believe me, that as a biker myself, I'm no prude & can have a profane vocabulary too at times if threatened or agitated).

And in 1st place:

"Quantum Theory"

The graphics of this game were simply horrific and almost caused my eyeballs to bleed from it's launch in 2010.

Now, I usually don't get myself worked up about graphics since I still play a lot of PS2 games, but whatever it about QT's graphics, I just couldn't get myself to play to the end & I quit it probably about 2/3's in(And I've tried numerous times to go back & finish it, but wound up ending each gameplay after only a few minutes.)

R.I.P. Q.T. forever more!!!!

Pole Position for the Atari 2600! Doesn't feel quite the same after you've played Gran Turismo...

Final Fantasy VI.

I mean the original SNES version. On SNES. Without an emulator.

I can go back and play the PSN version on PSP for little stretches of time. But that allows you to sprint without sprint shoes... it doesn't have as bad of a translation in dialogue. (Fenix Down? Really?) The re-releases have helped get rid of the monotonous stuff.

But on what used to be a dynamite time... I can't believe I used to have patience for that kind of thing! lol. Kinda shows how virtues can fade over time I guess. The original in it's original just doesn't hold up. It needs the upgrades and amendments the re-releases have had.
