Playstation's Top Ten Moments.

With the recent celebration of the PS' birthday I decided that it would be only right to take a look back at the PlayStation's five year run and recap the top ten moments. Granted the PS has been like a companion throughout these five years, with a library of 3,000 games all over the world, it has more games than any other console out there. With the upcoming launch of the PS2 just about a month away the PSX will be replaced but will never be forgotten. This list is not in chronological order! So here is the look at the PlayStation's top ten moments.

10. Sony PlayStation Launches and is nicely received. Although there was a lack of attention paid to the system because of the media hype that Nintendo was stirring up for their defunct Nintendo 64. The day of the PSX was September 9th, 1995.

09. On December 6th 1999, Sony announces that they have shipped a grand total of 70 million PlayStation worldwide. This makes the Playstation the best selling game console of all time.

08. Crash Bandicoot is without a doubt the most wackiest gaming mascot out there. His crazy pelvic thrusts, his humor and his games are all extremely enjoyed by many among the world, so I thought that the marsupial deserved a spot on the PS Top Ten. Crash Bandicoot's first game was a lot of fun, it had a great deal of exploration, variety and sweet visuals. The second one was more of the same except with a much better adventure, visuals improved, and more gameplay goodies. Crash Warped was the whole nine yards the game had multiple characters, awesome visuals, excellent gameplay and very good replay value, the third one lead the pack. Then we have Crash Team Racing, not only is it the greatest kart-racer ever, but it still remains as one of the best looking Playstation games. Crash Bandicoot definitely gives Sonic and Mario a run for their money.

07. Tekken 3 arrives around April of '98 as we are all captivated by what may be the best fighting game of all time. Arguably the first US title to use the Dual Shock function, Tekken 3 mixed the ten hit combos with arcade perfect visuals, true to the arcade gameplay and best of all a perfect port. Tekken 3 to this day is the best fighting game on the Playstation. With the approach of Tekken Tag Tournament, Tekken fans are in for a treat this October.

06. My sixth pick for most memorable moment would have to be the release of Mega Man Legends. This was unlike any other Mega Man game out there, this one was Mega Man's very first 3D title that included elements of RPG and Adventure. This game had the great Mega Man feel to it, characters like Roll appeared in the game to provide Mega with assistance. Released during the Summer of 1998, Mega Man Legends goes down in my book as sixth most memorable moment.

05. The break of the top ten would have to be Final Fantasy VIII's release, the seque to FFVII arrived on 9/9/99 and was sold out in matter of hours. Pre-order figures broke the 500,000 barrier as FFVIII quickly became one of the fastest selling games ever. While some people found FFVIII the game a disappointment, most of the Final Fantasy fans out there still loved the game, its gameplay, the killer graphics and the somewhat confusing story. Final Fantasy VIII was still a great game and earns its mark.

04. December 14th comes and Gran Turismo 2 is released. After hitting a seven day delay, GT2 finally arrives to stores selling out instantaneously. Problems are fixed with GT2 as new corrected copies arrive on store shelves, later following an announcement on February 9th that GT2 sells over one million units. With GT2's 500+ sized garage, the realistic visuals and the incredibly realistic physics, GT2 makes the cut and comes out big as fourth most memorable moment.

03. Last year Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was released to the public around October and gamers were quickly hooked on this gravity defying skateboard game. Tony Hawk was one of the less hyped up games of '99 but was one of the best selling games due to commercials and incredible reviews. Tony Hawk is still without a doubt the most additive and best Playstation games around, and it earns the Bronze award.

02. Metal Gear Solid released in October of '98 is still hailed by many as the greatest videogame ever produced (I believe that FFVII is). MGS was another of the best selling videogames on any console, the games stealth action, excellent story line, and beautiful graphics make Metal Gear Solid the second best moment in the PS' history.

01. The anticipated release to Final Fantasy VII finally comes. September 4th comes and FFVII is available exclusively to the Playstation, so quickly Nintendo's console is old news and is being sold left and right. FFVII sells wonders, surpassing the million unit mark in just around a few days. As sales soar, so do reviews (such as mine), critics hail Final Fantasy VII as the greatest videogame ever created and many sites gave the game ten's across the board. This one of the biggest and most memorable days in gaming history. Square has now made it official that they are staying with the PS, sorry Nintendo.
