3rd Annual PSX Extreme Awards
Game of the Year:
Here it is everybody. The announcement you were all waiting for. This year alone, our Editor-in-Chief, SolidSnake, handed out five overall scores of 10! FIVE! He doesn't regret doing so one bit, as he has clearly justified his merits with very lengthy reviews to each game. But unfortunately, only 4 games made the final cut and only one has taken home the gold for game of the year...
As a whole, no other game beats Final Fantasy X. Arnold, Anthony and Dmitry all agree that this is hands-down the best game of the year. Everyone of us was sucked into this incredible world with color, depth, and best of all an excellent story. Even though Grand Theft Auto 3 edged out FFX in the gameplay category, in terms of overall performance FFX takes the crown. This is not only the game of the year, but quite possibly the best FF to date.
Silver: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (Konami)
Bronze: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (Activision)
Honorable Mention: Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (Sony)
We know what you're thinking. "Where's Grand Theft Auto3"? When it came down to it all, we couldn't knock out GT3 or Tony Hawk 3. MGS2 and FFX were already shoe-ins, but we kept on discussing GTA3's stand in the awards. So in the end, we decided to award the game its gameplay merits. Having said that, no game library is complete without a copy of GTA3, or every one of those GOTY contenders. With that out of the way, this concludes our 3rd Annual PSX Extreme Awards. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did compiling it, and believe us; it wasn't easy! All of us at PSX Extreme can only imagine of things to come for the PS2 in 2002. Until then, at ease fellow gamers
