Do We Actually Welcome The Summer Drought?
Obviously, we've already seen some amazing games this year. It'd be no exaggeration to say that we've seen at least a few absolute gems, and that includes God of War III, Red Dead Redemption, Heavy Rain, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Bioshock 2, Bayonetta, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Final Fantasy XIII and others. And looking into the summer months...well, we're not really seeing much of anything in the way of must-have titles. ...but are we really complaining?
Look, I'm all for a continuous influx of great games. That being said, each game does cost a decent chunk of money and we don't necessarily have hours on end every day to play. I refuse to believe that absolutely everyone has been able to play through every great 2010 production thus far, and let's not forget that we saw the typical flood of awesome titles towards the end of 2009, too. In reality, it really hasn't let up since October of last year (with the exception of April, which was mostly dead despite Super Street Fighter IV and Nier showing up) and personally, I'm way behind. I still have to finish 3D Dot Game Heroes and Nier, and I now want to start over in Red Dead Redemption so I can attack it as I would any in-depth RPG. So yeah, I'm not that disappointed to see a break in the action. And I would strongly suggest that y'all take advantage of this lull and play catch-up for a while. Hey, there are a lot of long games out there, too!
I think we all need a little downtime that allows us to catch up on a backlog of games. And while I still say I'm disappointed in how Alpha Protocol turned out (review coming soon), I'm almost happy that I have no desire to add it to my "must-play more" list. See, I really hate having games I never completed in my collection...so maybe it's just me. But I doubt it.

Lets see, ill be playing:
Red Dead Redemption, Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Super Street Fighter IV, Uncharted 2 multiplayer, then Metroid Other M is released at the end of August so my summer is pretty full. Red Dead will take me awhile i suspect and I've also got the itch to play through the campaign again on Uncharted 2. So I'm set like a squirrel ready for winter.

Here is my schedule: Currently playing RDR and Star Ocean TLHI and I also need to beat 3DDotGameHeroes.
Also my shelf has Wet, Nier, X-Blades, and Fallout 3 GOTY (I wanted the expansions) waiting for me to get to them. So I think I'll be fine :) What have you guys got laying around?

I'm torn on the issue, though. I want more high quality games, but I don't want to get further behind either.

Speaking of 360. Through really unusual circumstances I have a Xbox 360 again. I've given that Bayonetta demo a try (on 360 this time) and despite my earlier impressions I've had a change of heart. It's on my must-play list for the year. I just want to snag it when it's cheap. I don't think there's ever been such a wealth of quality games prior to now.. There's just so many..

Am I the only one feeling that obsidian does not deserve the projects they have been given? they never have. Right back to an Alien RPG. That would've been a masterpiece, yet it ended up in their hands never to be finished, I am very angry towards them.

Now how the heck am I supposed to prioritize my time? I'll only have weekends and nights to play so I'm going to have to go hard and try to be fair especially since I plan on getting quite a few of the recently released games

Seriously though, for those who are actually done with all the great ps3 titles from 2009 and 2010; there's a whole collection of ps2 and ps1 games which I'm sure some of you have been wanting to buy some day.
Gotta say, I have never fallen so behind on the greatest games of each generation like I have recently with ps3's 2009/2010 lineup since the best years of ps1. That's truly saying something!
Can't wait for the Autumn games.

For more traditional turn based fighting there's Persona 3&4 and Shadow Hearts series.
For PS3 there's Eternal Sonata and of course Star Ocean IV.

I also got Splinter Cell: Conviction for PC. The game it's actually better than the other splinter cell games on PS2 which I hated...
Also got Assassin's Creed 2 but for PC when it came out.
I only buy exclusive PS3 games... XD

im actually surprised by alpha protocol its a much better game than what i was expecting since well since segas track record latley is less than stellar!
the only 4 things that are bugging me with it is the lack of polish, the AI, the RPG elements and the puzzles.
honestly this game feels so freaking rushed its not funny and this is after it got delayed like what 8 months god id hate to see what it would of been like if it did not get delayed!!!
honestly do sega have a QA team what so ever???
im really starting to believe they dont, if they do than dam i wish i could get paid to do jack fu*king shit!!!
than there are the puzzles they are so dam fu*king hard, but not hard as in challenging hard as in cheap hard.
they give you a task to complete and the fastest thing in the world would require say 20 seconds to do it so thats how long they give you.
sorry sega but i dont have reflexes like flash, id be nice if i did but sadly i dont.
than theres the RPG elements to the game.
i understand its a RPG so that is why the combat system is how it is you need points to spend on certain attributes.
but can i ask you one question, what the f*ck is the point of aiming my gun if im still going to miss???
honestly i take cover literally 20cm away from a enemy line up my cursor over his head, wait for the read cross hairs to decrease to get a critical shot fire and still some how i miss.
the reticules red right dead set on his head but i some how still missed.
what is the point of aiming if thats not where my bullets are going to go?
honestly run up to a wall and fire a shot check where your reticule is in comparison to where the bullet hit, honestly it will be a good 3 cms or so off.
last but not least theres the AI.
some bits are good like the AI is actually dynamic so instead of following a set path the enemies wonder around making it harder to pick them off because they group together.
but than theres the bad parts, the main part is they some how can see through solid walls and have eyes at the back of their heads.
theres a perk you can earn called silent walk, i crouch, activate it so its impossible for the enemy to hear me, creep up behind him and even though i am silent and he has his back to me he still some how sees me.
another time im taking cover behind a wall, i jump across a gap and take cover behind another wall than the enemy sees me through the cover i took and starts shooting me.
since when can humans see through cement??????????
one thing this game does really well though is giving the player choice and o boy is their plenty of that!!!
also the level design is really well done, much better than splinter cell conviction.
in splinter cell conviction 99% of the levels force you to take one path through a level straight past enemies there is no way to avoid them, 1% of levels there is a way to avoid them but its so well hidden no one will notice it.
in alpha protocol every single mission is so open there is always at least 2 ways some times more to get through and if you want avoid detection.
in splinter cell conviction say you enter a area and you need to get into a building the game will say go through the front door it wont say you can use the roof. but in alpha protocol it will say you need to go here, you can use the front door and go all guns blazing or you can take the roof and do it stealth fully.
thats what i love about alpha protocol it shows you all your cards and lets you make the decision.
alpha protocol is the game splinter cell conviction should of been.
in allot of levels splinter cell conviction it does not allow you to scan the area and choose different routes to kill certain enemies, most of the time there is one path and you have to stay on that path. it does not allow you to scan the area and say ok if i take this route and take out this guy, o wait i cant do that because than he will see me. splinter cell really does not allow you to do that, its a more this is how it is dont like it tough luck.
where alpha protocol lets you assess the situation and lets you choose how you want to execute it.
like the train level, there was a main platform 3 enemies on the left 3 on the right sides.
i started at the back right took out 2 enemies, than went back and did the same on the back left.
than i had the 2 front enemies left, i chose the right path and noticed just before i went in for the kill that if i took out the right guy i would be seen. so i moved back and took the left path instead this allowed me to take out the left guy without being seen.
that is perfect level design, the game puts you into a situation shows you all your options and lets you choose which ones to take and which ones to leave.
conviction never lets you do that.
if alpha protocol had the camera, controls and cover system of splinter cell conviction it could of been a masterpiece!!!
if splinter cell conviction had the open level design of alpha protocol it could of also been a masterpiece!!!!!
i hate it when games that have such high potential fell short because of something so small and silly, its really upsetting to see something so big destroyed by something so small.
if alpha protocol had the production values of conviction it could of been GOTY 2010 no joke it could of been that good!
but sadly alpha protocol goes on the gigantic list of games that could of been masterpieces but fell down because of crappy lazy developers.

First and foremost, I've got to finish God of War III and Assassins Creed 2.
I waited until ALL of the DLC for AC2 was out before getting past chapter 9. I want to complete the game in its entirety. Shame on UbiSoft for "cutting" the DLC chapters.
To be honest with you guys, the Xbox 360 looks to have a stronger 2nd half lineup at the moment. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm excited about Halo: Reach. I've been using my PS3 almost exclusively for the past 12 months. I recently purchased Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption, and Splinter Cell Conviction.
Oh, and I still need to play Heavy Rain, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, and Demon's Souls.
Next game I'm 100% sure to buy is Fallout: New Vegas...but I still need to beat: Point Lookout, The Pitt, and Mothership Zeta first...
Talk about a backlog...
M.A.G. and MLB 10: The Show have been constantly sucking up my time...makes it almost impossible to keep up.

Then there is nothing on my radar unless GT5 pops up.
12 hours into Red Dead Redemption at the moment and loving it.
25 hours into Final Fantasy XIII and realising that it's really a bit of a slog and I might just play it until I get to Pulse then trade it (for Demon's Souls if I'm lucky).
I just can't help thinking that FFXIII is just too much like work. The battles are good and there is a bit of strategy involved but that is about it. 25 hours in, if I really think I've got 25 hours of the same then that doesn't actually thrill me. Pretty disappointed.
Red Dead Redemption on the other hand, is just pure fun. I got bored of GTAIV pretty quick but RDR is just like Assassins Creed 2 compared with 1. Lots of variety and the gun battles are pure fun.
I picked up Siren Blood Curse very cheap. Like a bit of something scary for the evenings!

probably more that I can't think of right now.
Then it is only one game coming this summer I want, but it is not on PS3. Starcraft 2 is coming 27th July for PC only.

Also, I'll have some time for free running, seeing as it has become a weekly thing since 3 weeks ago.
And I need to buy a kite surf set, which will be very expensive, but will be cheaper in the end seeing as I'll spend most of my 3 weeks in France Kite surfing.
Oh well, I'll see how it all pans out.

Unless BlazBlue Continuum Shift releases on July 27th(I know Ben said fall, but Amazon and Aksys said July, I'm so confused...), and RAGE actually comes out this summer, that's all I have on my list until the inevitable fall flood of games. Maybe Trinity Universe, but I dunno yet.
No complaints from me! :)

Talk about backlog, I've got well over 280 Xbox games, 50 for the 360, 400 PS1 games, 240+ PS2 games I still haven't played so far.
And I've got about 55 PS3 games still waiting to be played, including these games at the top of my "to get to" list that I really want to play....
KZ2
R2
Call Of Juarez:B in B
Fear 1 & 2
AC1
Fuel Motorstorm
Burnout Paradise
But the last month's been spent just on "The Saboteur" & I've got 129 hours in so far.
I finished all the main storyline & missions in a week & 1/2, but I want to see if I can get my 1st plat, so now I've picking away at all the extra "free Play" targets ever since.
***Spoiler alert****
Damn, trying to swan-dive from the top of the Eiffel Tower into a small wading pool below has been a real biatch so far.
And if it keeps continuing the way it has so far, my character Shawn won't have any teeth left from face-palming the concrete over & over & over.
