Top 5 Titles PS3 Fans Wish They Had
When there's an obvious drought, it always helps to have multiple gaming platforms. Therefore, while we push forward through a typically lackluster summer, we take a look at the top 5 games not available on the PlayStation 3; titles PS3-only gamers really wish they had.
5. Mass Effect 2
I struggled to get into it but there's little doubt the game is top-quality. There's always talk about BioWare bringing the third title to the PS3 (what with Dragon Age being multiplatform) but in the meantime, most role-playing aficionados were really missing out if they only stuck to Sony's machine. Lauded by many as one of the best of the generation, and certainly featuring a great story, ME2 remains one of those "you just gotta try it" games. Like I said, I never liked it but it's easy enough to recognize the inherent goodness.
4. Starcraft II
It took a very long time before this sequel finally graced store shelves, but as far as most fans of the original are concerned, Starcraft II is worth the wait. You'll be hard-pressed to find a review that doesn't sing the game's praises and in a gaming world now dominated by action, it's nice to see an in-depth strategy title make a big splash. Early sales estimates say that it managed to sell around 750,000 copies in only the first day at market, and that's pretty damn impressive. You can really lose yourself in this one if you're into this type of experience.
3. Super Mario Galaxy 2
I could go on a rant about how it simply doesn't feel like a current-gen title to me, and that I will absolutely never put it in the same category as a game like Uncharted 2, but that's beside the point. Few games show such a dedication to freshness throughout the adventure; you will be continually entertained - and impressed - with each and every fascinating new world. There's no professional voice acting or deep storyline or character development but then again, there doesn't need to be. If you can't kick back and have fun with Mario, you're almost disqualified for life.
2. Gears of War 2
I imagine that when Gears 3 arrives, it could very well take over this spot, or even the top spot. As for this sequel, despite the bugs (game crashed when I beat the final boss and froze up a few other times), this visceral, satisfying experience never seems to stop being fun. Next to the Uncharted series, it's the definitive third-person shooter franchise, and you just gotta love those humans-turned-military superheroes (a lot of that is the suit, I'm sure). There's very little wrong with this game, and I'm hoping for more greatness next year...
1. Alan Wake
I'm nearing the end of this one and of course, I'm a little biased towards really artistic titles with excellent stories. One can say the gameplay is a little repetitive but you really need to appreciate the amount of effort involved concerning plot, characters, and perhaps above all else, atmosphere creation. This is one game you might not want to play at 2 a.m. with all the lights off, and that's a very good thing. It's not really fair to compare it to Heavy Rain - Alan Wake is more of a survival/horror adventure - but it might appeal to the same type of fans. Do I believe they could've made it a little better had it been exclusive to the PS3? Yeah. Do I believe that should stop anyone from playing it? Hell no.
So there you have it. If you've got a few of your own, feel free to name 'em. Bear in mind I'm only talking about games I've seen and played in this list; there may be others that deserve a spot that I haven't been able to try. But my only real goal is play all the best stuff available, so I don't think I missed too much. I the end, I think it's clear the PS3 has by far the best selection of exclusive games, and those games often set the bar for quality and innovation this generation, but that's no reason to limit ourselves. :)

P.S. last time I checked around 250 people still play, but that was months ago. Might actually hop on and check it out sometime today.

4. See above. Don't like strategy games either. Wouldn't mind the original Warcraft re-released in HD though.
3. I never even finished the 1st one.
2. I guess it looks fun. But not quite enough to make me buy a 360 yet. Besides, I heard besides Halo, its the 360 meeting ground for racists, douchebags, and high pitched children (sometimes all in one).
1. Looks interesting I guess. Would be cool with Move.
Left 4 Dead is honestly the only 360 game I REALLY want, and I think Valve's Steam may one day provide it for me. So for now, no 360.

I'm glad for not limiting myself to only a certain type of games, so thanks for the reminder Ben ^.^, and let this be a good lesson to all of us; games come in all different forms, and all give different experiences. The one thing they have in common is that they are all good experiences, memorable ones.
Even though most of us may like games that revel us in the ability to have choices, or games that are so abundant in story that gives us a real, breathing world to immerse ourselves in (Heavy Rain, Mass Effect, Dragon Age: Origins), we shouldn't forget that there are other games that don't strive or excel in that, that offer other things that make them equally good as well, such as a focus on atmosphere (like Alan Wake as Ben mentioned), or just the essence of having fun, with wonderfully tight gameplay mechanics(Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a fine example, and of course, as Ben mentioned =P).

I kind of disagree, the 360 does have some good games, just none that speaks to me, that's why I stick to the PS3. The only 360 games I want to play is Gears and Alan Wake and maybe some XBLA titles. Not enough to warrant a purchase.

Maybe it's the games and not the controller, but I find myself pressing a button and watching as nothing happens...I've seen that in Alan Wake a few times.

I agree. Though, for the analog sticks, it feels like the other way around for certain games. The DS controller's sticks are very loose and have a lot of play-room, and I guess developers generally add a deadzone to keep it from being too wild. The buttons seem to be more pressure-sensitive, as you were saying, so when you go from using the DS3 to the 360 controller, you have to press the buttons harder or more deliberately. Sliding your finger or grazing the buttons, as you might do when doing combos, or hitting multiple buttons at the same time, is harder on the 360 controller. Then again, you don't nearly have the same kind of problem as you might have on the DS3, where say, you accidentally graze a button and waste a magic for instance.

the 360 HAS good games, and it has a sturdy, reliable controller. the d-pad may not be the best, but its angled triggers got me wondering what the hell sony was thinking!
and the ps3 doesn't do everything. it doesn't do
custom soundtracks
flash player
reliable internet browsing
cross game chat
video and music playback in a chatroom
and it doesn't do gears.
those are my main gripes for the ps3

Why doesn't the 360 have a browser? Seems like every 360 should come stock with IE since it's an MS brand.
XGC, I could live without.
And just because it doesn't have 1 game you shun it.

Ps3 uses bluetooth the xbox360 uses a custom wireless protocol, which is not as stable as bluetooth. This is probably why button hits dont always register. Also all ds buttons are pressure sensitive.
The boomerang controller demoed would have been nice. Its a shame the media slammed it so hard without even trying it, I still would like to try it.
Booze, to list your points:
- custom soundtracks
Supported, but not forced. Burnout paradise.
- flash player
Supported. It has been since 2.5 firmware, you tube etc work on the browser.
- reliable internet browsing
The internet browsing is reliable and at least it has a web browser. Would be good if they ditched it and went with firefox / opera or webkit based (chrome/safari etc).
- cross game chat
It removes you from the game atmosphere, to have conversations. Real life friends use a phone instant connection regardless of console system, gamer only friends can talk to them in the game while playing with them.
- video and music playback in a chatroom
Huh ?
and it doesn't do gears.
Big deal, the 360 doesnt do Uncharted 2...
I agree with you its great having your own opinion, To be honest I have so many games already, there is nothing on the 360 that I want (I have a wii so discounting that) so I couldn't even come up with a top 5 list.
In general The site is dedicated to the PlayStation platform, its great coming to this site to browse the news because there isn't any fanboy wars raging there is no bullsh*t.
I have never seen a news article here purposefully trying to flame bait or really knocking any other platform.

I just recently bought a 360 just to play some classic RPG. And I wasn't disappointed at all with it. I was rather surprised that the game was all that good. After playing FFXIII I had to go and get something like that...
Man FFXIII was bad...
I am planning to get Alan Wake soon. Lucky I got a 360 at least for something. I got an elite for 200 bucks brand new on sale lol.
But PS3 all the way, I wished some of these great games where on it...

of all systems, i see blue dragon on nintendo ds. are you effin serious? if you ever wondered what a classic role playing game would look like based on the artist or creator of dragon balls z, you have blue dragon. when i say classic, i mean the fight simulation plays almost exactly like ff7. with the exception that you don't just randomly go into battle mode, you see the enemy, then you willingly or unwillingly choose to engage him or her. each of the multiple character has his or her own strengths and or weakness, but there's 4 to 8 i think different classes that you willingly pick for each character. you may of heard critics say that wkc (white knight c.) was more of a good looking ps2 game instead of a good looking ps3 game, well blue d. was a good looking x box 360 game, period. and that was released in 2007 or 2008 i guess.
let me just say this, to all people talking about ff7, ff7. if you like or love that game, you'll love blue dragon. and each character has a blue supernatural creature they control. oh, did i mention that they made an anime series based on the game? and no, it wasn't the dark knight or halo anime movie, where's there 4 to 7 different stories describing there different attributes. that's all, what say you?

Starcraft 2 is a game I would prefer to play on PC unless you could use a mouse and keyboard on the PS3(Hell, Unreal Tournament 3 did it, so why not). And I honestly don't care for Mario.

Personally, having gone mostly console-only for gaming, I don't miss the days where I'd have to lay down a few hundred bucks on new graphics cards, RAM, etc just to stay current on a recommended PC settings.
Compared to consoles, PC gaming gave me far less bang for my buck.

think about it, if you take out the ps plus and the ps1 classics, xbox 360 arcade library got them beat. mind you, i'm just comparing the ps store library of games to the xbox live arcade.

I could nic-nac it to pieces but It still one of my most valued overall 360 experiences I've had so far.
THe top current-gen franchises I value outside of PS3 include: mass effect, halo, gears, doa, and the much better 360 bayonetta ( yeah, shut it World =p )
I know Alan Wake is good and I played the Max Payne's before it, but I'm just not big on creepy-scary games.
Yeah, I'm a weenie like that.

I didn't get too specific on creepy/scary games.
I suppose I should say horror.
Games like Silent Hill, Resident Evil etc. aren't much my thing. When I was younger they were. I played several RE's etc.
I will say there is something about Dead Space that compels me. I tried the demo. I think what I like about it is that the character feels powerful. In other horror games the survival element meant you have limited ammo and abilities. I don't like that.
And that Dead Space 2 trailer looked intense.

4: Seems kind of interesting because I used to watch people play Starcraft 1 but never got to play it myself, but I'd probably get too bored of it way too fast to even consider paying for it.
3: The last real good Mario games were Mario 64 and the Paper Mario games, I'm not feelin' the whole Galaxy vibe... why can't they just remake Super Mario World in the New Super Mario Bros. type of graphics? That would be an interesting Nintendo game...
2: Please, no! The character designs look WAY too bulky and are too reminiscent of the Halo armors... so I would be playing as disgustingly ugly body armor designed character AND be reminded of one of the worlds most overhyped game franchises ever created... I'll spare the mental anquish and skip it all together.
1: I was actually kind of excited that the 360 would have a decent game when this was first coming out, just like how at first I was a bit interested in Natel or whatever. But like everything that the 360 makes, it was such a let down. One of my biggest reasons to steer clear of the wreck that is called the XBox 360
There are a few games I want, though:
Fragile Dreams: The quality of that game looks so great for the Wii, realy does!
Epic Mickey: Just for the sheer Epicness, lol
There are some more, but it's almost 2 in the morning and I'm tired, lol

4. Don't play RTS, but I can see why Starcraft II is so good.
3. In all honesty, I think all the best Mario games are in 2D. But if you have to go 3D, SMG2 is pretty amazing (sans HD).
2. I don't get that complaint. So what if you don't like how they look? The game rules.
1. It's definitely worth playing.

ME2 was such a improvement over the first, probably this gens most improved sequel!
i still prefer alan wake, but ME2 was still a good title.
good to see great games can be improved, instead of staying the same like most games.
perfect example is K&L2.
how the hell it got 8s in reviews and above is beyond me!
this is exactly why i dont bother reading reviews anymore.
brilliant innovative games like alan wake, or heavy rain get mediocre scores, and crap repetitive games like halo or COD get 9s and 10s!
if K&L2 deserves a 8 than almost every game released in may deserves a 10!
they have literally improved on nothing, the controls still are as broken as the original, the shooting feels weak and repetitive, the visuals suck and the sound dont get me started on the sound!
honestly when i shoot at someone, it sounds like my next door neighbor has popped a balloon!
have these idiots ever fired a gun before?
there f*cking loud, even with earmuffs on i could hear my ears ringing a full 3 hours after using a standard police issue pistol!
and thats a small crappy gun, imagine what it would of been like if i used a rifle or something bigger and more powerful!
o, not to mention theres massive hit detection issues!
i was playing the level from the demo in the full game last night, a cop was below me running towards me.
i shot him, hes head flung back, he fell down, than got up and continued running.
a shot with a shotgun to the head does not kill him?
WTF?
i throw a grenade at a group of 4 enemies, the grenade explodes at their feet, they go flying onto the floor, they get up and continue on there daily business like nothing happened!
rrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiigggggggghhhhhhhhhttttttttt.
if a grenade blast literally 20cms away from them does not kill them than i dunno what will!
normally when i play a game, theres something i like about it, and keeps me playing.
like the story in AP, or the plain out gore of GOW3.
but K&L2?
theres not one thing i like about it!
not one!
ok, maybe the being able to pick up fire hydrants or fuel canisters is a cool addition, but thats about the best thing i can say about it, which is extremely sad!
im soooooooooooo disappointed!
i was expecting this to be crap, but was secretly preying it would be like army of two the 40th day.
sadly, its not, its much more like the original K&L.
crap, broken, frustrating and boring as hell!
i dunno what i would rather play more, this, naughty bear or rouge warrior!

i just built my rig early last year and if i want to play MAFIA 2 on it i need a new video card!
and i have to check if my MB supports a 470GTX and i may need a new power supply.
so now a simple 400 dollar upgrade could quickly turn into a thousand dollar one!

I will never understand why some people think they have to pay thousands of dollars for a high-end gaming PC. Buy just-below highest-end parts for best bang-for-the-buck, it'll last you years and you're set for 1080p PC gaming for a long time before you have to do ANY upgrades.

I am lucky that I got both, weird though the 360 lasted longer (4 years old now) compared to my PS3 which would have been 3 this October but the fatty died on me (damn you YLOD) and I had to get it's slimmer bigger brother. I play some games on my 360 the likes of Halo's and Gears and Alan Wake.

My only exceptions are Starcraft 2 (it looks good, don't get me wrong, but it looks like it's just a polished but fairly standard RTS - I've been playing those games for nearly 20 years now, so it's hard to get excited about another), and Super Mario Galaxy 2. I haven't played SMG2, but after my experience of SMG1, and the reviews of SMG2 (which had it as pretty similar to 1, but bigger and with a few tweaks), I'm not going near it (and I own a Wii!). SMG1 was just far too overrated - terrible camera, imprecise motion controls for the attack, solid and colourful, but not particularly original level design (some of the more 3D platforming felt like a poor man's Ratchet and Clank) - I played through Jak and Daxter (the original) three times, and I'd play through it again before touching SMG2.

Mario Galaxy games are, imho, WAY,WAYT overrated and I'd rather play the more imaginative R&C games every day of every week for ever if I had to choose. Annoyed me how SMG got the praise fr planetoid gameplay as original when Ratchet had it on ToD!! GS hammered ToD for "too much variety" yet SMG gets praised for it even when ut has LESS variety. No need for Mario on a Sony console.
SC2? On a console? Why? How? Wouldn't work with a pad or a console crowd anyway and stays on PC where RTS and it's cowardly gameplay can stay.
As for Alan Wake, I just think it was vast let down and as it was THE game I got my launch 360 to play it's a sore point. The writing was, imho, cack handed(some devices were great but some didn't work like the chapter recaps and narration being pants filled no sh** sherlock moments we got all the damn time)and got too much critical praise. The other thing us the gameplay was BORING and predictable as all hell and the DLC is better! Add in characters with inconsistent behaviour when you think of their motives, stupid characters like his sodding wife and the fact the game atrophied features to become more linear than what we were promised for five damn years.
Peoole knocked the writing in HR and praised AW's?!! Why, HR was a mammoth, demanding task with a gazillion different endings making things hard for actors and writers alike while AW was as linear and easy to write as they damn well come-imo there was no comparison and HR was BETTER written on every level. AW also failed to stay as tense as it needed, was to far up a hack like King's arse for words and, in short, upset me more than Fallout3 killing my favourite WRPG series of all time(honestly, two broken shooting mechanics and a total loss of atmosphere due to recycling everything but horse armour from Oblivion made it the game i'm most amazed ANYONE enjoyed let alone got all the love it did!).
Don'#t even mention the way Remedy/MS shafted PC gamers either!
So, ME and Gears yes and the others ?NO. LO might be a decent jrpg addition to PS3(even though I didn't enjoy it myself) and the first DR was a decent exclusive for 360 unlike anything we've got on PS3.

If you're going to complain about the writing, then quite simply, you're going to complain about the writing in basically every single video game. It's about as good as one can expect from a game these days (although storytelling is certainly getting better), and while Heavy Rain and MGS4 are superior in that respect, Alan Wake is different.
As for the rest about atmosphere, that's entirely subjective.

Aero Dancing 4(Aero Elite Combat Academy) - enchanced version
Tourist Trophy - ehanced version
Super Mario Kart Arcade
Microsoft Flight Simulator X
Pilot Wings 64 - enhanced
Even though the latter 3 are desirable, its nothing but wishful thinking.
Speaking of, its quite shame MSFT never released Microsoft Flight Simulator X on 360, it would've sold even more copies.

After watching a friend play Mass Effect 2 I wasn't impressed with it.
As for SMG 2, well I've grown out of the Mario days, it doesn't help that Nintendo brings out a new Mario game like the sports franchises bring out the latest incarnation of their games, Nintendo should think about just calling it Super Mario Game 2010.....
Gears of War 2, oh yay yet ANOTHER shawdy shooter for the 360, oh joy.../sarcasm
Alan Wake, umm not quite sure how to discribe how lame this game looks, although Yahtzee comes VERY close to how I feel about the game. Watched a friend play it for about 5 minutes and lost all interest.
Starcraft 2, like the vast majority of RTS games should stay on the computer, plain and simple. This class of game is far to complex to do on a console unless it comes w/ keyboard & mouse support. If someone was to bring out a keyboard & mouse set up for the PS3 and bundle it w/ Starcraft 2 I would buy it in a heart beat.

Mass Effect: Not all the 360 fans hype it up to be. The story is disposable, and ME2 plays like Gears of War with level ups and dialog trees. The tacked on sex scenes also cheapen the game, substitute this with Lost Odyssey.
Star Craft 2: Just no, I'm not a PC gamer but this is a PC game. It would not translate well to consoles and frankly would be out of place on even the PC friendly 360 let alone the PS3 (see Halo Wars).
Super Mario Galaxy 2: Seriously? I'll pass on this as well, having played the original to death and owning this one I can say that most PS3 owners would not care for this game. Its fun but the motion controls are a bit tacked on and the presentation is well below what most HD console gamers have come to expect. Ratchet is more my speed.
Gears of War: Look I own this game and yes if you have a 360 you should too, but its not the end all be all. More of a frat boy phenomenon (like Halo, not that I dislike that series either). Uncharted is better.
Alan Wake is the only game on here I agree with 100% as it is a fantastic game (that no one bought)

Alan Wake
