Dear Remedy: PS3 Owners Want Alan Wake 2

Okay, so you've explained why Alan Wake was exclusive to the Xbox 360, and we accept that explanation. Microsoft came to you with the best deal and besides, it's always easier to focus on any one console.

However, if you do create Alan Wake 2 and if for some strange reason your exclusivity deal with MS went bye-bye, I'm telling you that such a project would go over quite well with the PlayStation 3 audience. Although Heavy Rain is a different experience in terms of gameplay, both your game and Quantic Dream's emphasized a strong story narrative and character development. As far as I can tell, the same sort of people who enjoyed one game would enjoy the other. But here's the difference: while Heavy Rain was expected to only sell a few hundred thousand copies and ended up selling over 1.5 million, your game... The numbers weren't exactly encouraging, now were they?

Well, it wasn't a huge flop but let's face up to facts: Alan Wake didn't sell anywhere near as well as it should've. But with all this great word-of-mouth generated by critics and die-hard fans of your stellar achievement, there's every indication that a sequel would sell better, and I can almost guarantee the PS3 fans would take notice. Maybe it's because the average age of a PS3 owner is a little higher. Or maybe it's because the innovative risks Sony has taken in the past three decades have been received well by gamers. Whatever the reason, it seems apparent that Alan Wake 2 would be welcomed by the PS3 crowd.

Of course, if the game remains exclusive to the 360, I will certainly still buy it on day one. And I'm hoping others will reward your efforts as well. But as you said, it was a "business risk" to cut out all the possible consumers...maybe it's best to eliminate that risk and give nearly twice as many gamers a chance to play your new in-depth adventure. Just a thought.

Once upon I was considering a 360 for this game and Mass Effect. Then I got a decent computer.

It really needs to come over, I still really want to play it. I'm really love Twin Peaks, and a game even with a shade of that I want to play.

Twin Peaks was special. it was more than a murder mystery, funnier than any commedy, disturbing, illuminating and just plain weirder than anything else around. I loved it. I used to have the entire collection on VHS, until I moved continent and then they stayed with my best friend.

I'm with you there man I hope it stays exclusive also there are hardly any exclusives out for the 360 this year . Microsoft is waiting for the middle of the year (E3 2011) to announce they're exclusive games all of which may or may not come out next year except for Forza 4 and Gears and that's just lame. I'm sort pissed about that I would like to get more playing time with 360 than just one as of lately.

The Rememdy team sort of strikes me as a smaller scale dev who wants to keep costs low. Even though it's retail copies clocked in around 1 million it did manage to get bundled in with the 360 and it has a reasonable asking price on MS's "games on demand" service. So while they probably would've been safe to make the game on PS3, it would seem Remedy has been profitable enough to have a sequel green lighted. That, and it keeps an ace in MS's sleeve to attract a portion of Sony's audience who may be tempted to come over and "Jump In"
I, for one, can't play Alan Wake because it creeps me out.

Sequels don't necessarily come from games that sell well, NT is still mulling over a Enslaved sequel. I think MS might want one from Remedy just because they have like no exclusives and need something to talk about.

I'd imagine it has more to do with whether, or not, a game is profitable. I'd hope, anyway. Who'd be crazy enough to continue and release games to drive themselves into bankruptcy?

So World, it would seem I skimmed somewhere that you are doing reviews, or something, at that Titan Reviews site? If so, cool =)

At the risk of sounding stupid (since I haven't played it and all), my friends tell me that the episodic nature of the game lent itself to that sort of campy horror/thriller TV show feel. One of them likened it to the unholy offspring of Twin Peaks, Silent Hill, and The Shining.

Well, it had fantastic writing, first of all. Some of the best of the generation by a long shot.

And yeah, I really liked the TV/episodic thing; after every chapter, it recapped what happened in a "last time, on Alan Wake" theme.

The gameplay could get a little repetitive, certainly, but it was the dark, freaky atmosphere and story that matters most.

If the campaign is 10 hours, does it have multiple ending or routes to the end? You know short games are one of my pet peeves.

It's just all the vids for this game show him running with a flash light, is there any actual combat? I'm just wondering what the actual gameplay is like.

Horror isn't really my thing so if it's just supposed to be scary then you're right I probably wouldn't like it. If someone ever said here play this though I'd give it a chance.

Actually I'm pretty sure a PS3 version of Allan Wake 2 would sit on store shelves with the rest of the "year late to the party" 360 ports. PS3 owners have all the third person shooters they need. Why would they run out for part two of a game they never played? Not going to happen.

i absolutely agree with that. remedy does not want the hassle of dealing with ps3 apparently so this topic is futile. it's just not going to happen. people can dream, but this is a smaller developer who seems to be loyal to ms.

i have often debated on getting a 360 becuase of games like lo, and alan wake. i just can't get myself to do it becuase of my absolute hatred of ms, and its practices. i don't want to contribute any to their already huge lead na,

sony really dropped the ball this gen, and now has a dangerous opponet in ms. there were so many happy ps2 owners ready for a next gen system. sony came along with that ridiculous asking price and with games that did not look as good as 360's. so guess what? a lot of people jumped ship, and did not look back. somehow ms survived the rrod fiasco to be the console of choice for hardcore gamers in na. i blame that on sony. it's been hard to watch my console of choice come in last place all this gen.

Calling Alan Wake a third-person shooter is like calling L.A. Noire a third-person shooter. Technically, it's not far off, but it's a giant insult to the core appeal of the game.

Secondly, it's not a year-old port. I'm not asking for the original; I'm talking about a regular simultaneous multiplatform release of a sequel.

What do you do in AW that is not third person shooting? Adding some cut scenes does not change what the game is. By comparison, we've all seen the LA Noire footage, and it's pretty clear that tp shooting is not the focus there.

As for AW2, I'm just saying it's going to sit on store shelves the same way those "year late to the party" 360 ports did. You know, Bioshock 2 and Mass Effect 2. Good games sure, but too late to matter.

However, if they do release it for the PS3 then that would be great for the PS3 users who did not get to play the first one!

Anyone played the socom 4 beta? It's really good, alot better than mag was (same developer).
It's all about tactics and it has a really big learning curve but, after awhile you begin to unlock the depth of the tactical elements. Teamplay is big, and it emphisises alot on headsets. Staying within shouting distance of your teamates (the game includes a cool feature where you can only hearing your teammates on headset if your near them) is vital if you wanna survive more than a minuite. Judging from this beta I'd say Ben would give this game a good 8.0+ score and if your into tactical online shooters and you weren't satisfied with MAG, you'll feel right at home here.

I have played the Socom 4 beta. While I think it's good, it's no MAG - at least not yet.
MAG has a bit of a learning curve, so you have to get your character to level 15 or so, before it starts getting really awesome.

As for Socom, just about everyone had headsets on games I played. Its just not everyone talks, that's all.
I find the over-the-shoulder view takes a bit of getting used to. Right now, if I play for too long, I get nausea!

no, i haven't heard of it but it sounds interesting. hope it wasn't canned becuase the move needs more games. there is very little disc based software for it. the implemtation of move controls to socom4, and kz3 is great but we really need more games for the move that have been designed ground up for it.

I still think the NGP and the PlayStation Move are the ideal hardware to produce a new Fatal Frame.

That is all.

if they find a way to bring the original to ps3, and i mean the original not a crappy interactive comic like ME2 did then yea id love to see alan wake 2 on ps3.
otherwise keep it a 360 exclusive.
alan wakes one of those games you have to play the original to enjoy the sequel, im kicking myself for playing ME2 without playing the original!

the comic was kind of lame, but does give you a chance to make like 6 choices that influence the game. absolutely an amazing game otherwise. i'm thrilled to see it on the ps3, becuase i will never own a 360. can't stand ms, or its practices.

In truth, there was once a time when I was interested in Alan Wake despite being a PS3 fan. But then I heard that the original plans to make it an open world game were scrapped. That greatly disappointed me. While it would be nice if the IP were for find it's way to the PS3, even if it doesn't it's no big loss. At least not as far as I'm concerned.

Although I still think it is safe to say that Alan Wake probably would have done better in terms of sales if it had been on the PS3.

Alan Wake is definetly the Heavy Rain of the Xbox 360. If Alan Wake ever came to PS3, I would without any hesitation buy it.

Alan Wake is a good game. I know some of my PS3 mates would love to see it come to the PS3. I hope they do an Alan Wake 2 if it's only on 360 then I'll just have to get it for that console and let my mates play it when they come round here.

Well, if they could give the game a whole lot more variety, then I would really like it to come to PS3. As it stands right now, the first game gets too repetitive by the fifth level, and the only thing that keeps you going is the story. More variety, and then we can start talking about multiplat Wake.
