Ben's Week In Review: May 15
Well, obviously, the big news is the return of the PSN, but we've got several articles for that. :)
Two games that might get me playing online
For the most part, I only play online when reviewing a game. I really don't care much about it outside of the job. However, there are two upcoming titles that might get me involved in online multiplayer: the first is Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. The game will be amazing, and I have a feeling I'll want to indulge in as many ways as possible. Furthermore, with all those great enhancements Naughty Dog has scheduled, I'm really starting to like the sound of the multiplayer portion. The second game is the recently announced Starhawk. I really loved Warhawk; probably put a good 50 hours into that. I know that's not a lot by online standards but it is for me.
The game looks like tons of fun, and I think Dylan Jobe and Co. really know what they're doing. Yeah, we have to wait until 2012 but hey, it's not like we won't have anything to play between now and then. Also, I should mention I'll be looking forward to the Resistance 3 and Battlefield 3 multiplayer. :)
You know what? Just stay away from ports
If you have the option, just stay away from ports. It seems to be a rule this generation. In the same way I'd recommend opting for the Xbox 360 version of Bayonetta (Sega did a crappy port for the PlayStation 3 version), I can't imagine why anyone would purchase the 360 version of L.A. Noire if they've got a PS3 at home. Team Bondi flat-out admitted Sony's console was the lead development platform for the game, and the 360 version - which has to go on 3 discs - is a port. Look, I have faith in the designers and those who have gone hands-on with the game say both versions are pretty close, but even so... One version seems to be the superior one and if we have the option, the choice is plain.
By the way, the review will be coming this week, along with a video commentary soon after.
Personal gaming update
Well, as of Monday, it'll be all about L.A. Noire. Beyond that, I'm still working on Final Fantasy IV on the PSP. Just so you know, with the PSN back, you can expect reviews for Brink and MotorStorm: Apocalypse between now and Wednesday; I can finally get online and finish up the analysis for both. Also, we probably shouldn't forget that inFamous 2 is only three weeks away, so... Yeah, mark your calendars. :)
Also, with the Network back, we're that much closer to our big announcement. Oh well...crap, I guess that was a hint, but it's still a vague hint, yes? ;)

You two shills are alright.
Kidding aside, it is a great review, Tem. But
I'm glad you stopped at 'Bad' and didn't include 'Ugly' in your summary. Ben's team of high priced lawyers would have been all over you.

But why?
Well, to protect the integrity of my own profile and feedback history.
He's in just as likely position to tag me with a negative if he so desired (even if it'd be un-true). For me to satisfy the desire of justification, I could diminish the reputation of my positive feedback history, thus, quite possibly, reducing say a maximum bid on a future listing I may sell.
I have to pick my battles, and seeing that the game does work and I paid real cheap for it, I don't think it's worth the fuss.

If the guy refutes my post, I just use a secondary link to go right back to his post & refute his refute.
I always get the last word & there's not a thing he can to it, and he can't re-refute my secondary negative post at him.
If you need/want it for the future, I'll hunt down where I have put my secondary link & I'll post it for ya.

that's pretty ironic now that you bring it up. it was weird the way mgs4 handled installs. it should've been 1 big install upfront instead of breaking it up like they did. i have no idea why it was handled that way.
isn't their a way to install discs to the 360 hd anyways? that kind of helps.

You still need to swap discs, even after 360 install. I usually only install UE3 games because the textures load alot faster.

okay that's fine i'll just start my game and redeem the code later to get access to the add on missions. nope, had to restart my game once i redeemed my code. that really pissed me off.
it was stupid of ea to put some kind of online pass on me2. i know it's to cut into preowned sales, but it's kind of ridiculous. i guess if i traded my game in the next guy would have to pay $10 bucks for cerebus pack. the problem with that is the game was marketed as including all the add on content for ps3 owners.
short games spammed with day1 dlc, and ps3 multiplats are 2 of my biggest gripes of this gen. i told ea what i thought of it and they gave me a $20 code to use on their products at the psn store. that was nice of them. if crysis 2 had some kind of download pass i don't think i would have bouight it.
i will note that multiplats have come a long way on the ps3. me2 looked great on the ps3. leading with the ps3 seems to be the way to go when making games. the way they struggle porting games from the 360 is interesting. yet, they have no problems vice versa. that seems to indicate to me that 360 is obviously just as powerful as the ps3. the only limmitation the 360 suffers from is the dvd format. the ps3 is a powerful machine, but it takes a lot of talent to get the best out of it. i think kz3 might be the best looking game on the ps3. it makes other shooters look pretty ancient. obviously guerilla games is a very talented developer. that game deserves a lot more sales than it got. i don't understand why the shooter crazy us does not jump all over that game.
sorry for the long reply, i'm pretty wound up now that psn is back up. been playing a lot of kz3, and it is a real rush to finally go against human opponents. long live sony, and psn.

Uncharted 3 is way up on my list, but certainly not for the multiplayer. Starhawk is in a similar situation. I can't describe how glad I was to hear that it would include an SP campaign this time around, and I'm hoping that it does tackle themes of racism and segregation as it seems to have potential to do. Hey, at least it's another title for 2012. Next year's already starting to look really good.
Heh. Ports. I'm thinking that whatever Insomniac's EAP project is will be ported for the 360. But still, ports to the 360 generally work far better than ports to PS3. Shame really, though I'm glad to hear that more devs are either developing the versions alongside one another or leading on the PS3. Means that games will get better.
Personal Update:
Should finish Purgatory sometime this week, and then onto Paradise.
Just finishing off the challenges for Sly 3 before I post up my review of the Trilogy then head into inFamous territory. I think it'll be fun to see how Sucker Punch moved from one to the other.
And I'm not about five hours into FFIV. It's all good.
Peace.

I finished Portal 2 last weekend, which I enjoyed, and I'll be playing the mp now that the psn is backup. I finished Spiderman:SD this weekend, which IMO is a highly underrated title. People tend to compare it with Batman:AA, and although it takes plenty of cues from it, with the latch point indicators, alternative vision modes, the Noire levels and especially the final boss; the awesome scale and set pieces (very GOW3-esque), and freedom in movement and battle, and variety in level design put it in a class of it's own. Moreover, you actually feel like it is a comic book that has sprung to life.
Don't get me wrong. Batman:AA is one of the best multiplatform titles out there, I just enjoyed Spiderman:SD more. And I'm not a fan of one comic book hero over the other, nor am I even into comic books for that matter (though I dabbled with it in my preteen years, never following a series, but more because I loved drawing and art).
Speaking of comic book heros, I picked u Wolverine from Newbury comics today, on the cheap for 16.99. I know that doesn't support my previous disclaimer, but I saw the price, and I've heard only good things about it.
So many games, so little time.

Starhawk looks really good. Kinda reminds me of a mix between Star Wars: Battlefront and Starcraft. It will be on my list, which is now growing out of control.
Can't wait for inFamous. I have been checking its website frequently for updates but when the updated it recently it became all messed up. Can't beieve it is only three weeks away. Will be a great 'Welcome Summer' game.
Really glad that the PSN is back up. I don't use much outside of weekends but it is so annoying to listen to my xbot co-workers rail against it non-stop for the past three weeks. I finally broke down into a thirty minute rant about how great my baby is compared to their little xboxs. The look on their faces was classic, took a picture of it and its now my PS3 wallpaper.

I feel overwhelmed that the PSN is up in Oregon finally, the last few weeks were nothing compared to the announcement that it would be up by region just hours ago.

PSN is back.
The world is still turning.
My CC number is still safe.
My new password is lots longer and more complex than my old one. I suggest everyone uses a pass-phrase instead of a password. Simply choose a short phrase you can easily remember, add a numeric prefix and/or suffix, and stick a capital letter on the front of it. Nice and long, easy to remember and difficult to crack thanks to the length.
Now, once I check out Home, I'll fire up Uncharted 2 for the heck of it...

Regarding the concern over having to use the system you originally activated on. It's not quite that strict. You don't have to be using the very first system you ever activated, you simply need to be using a PS3 that has been activated under your PSN ID - before the outage. PSN already knows that system and your PSNID are associated, so it will work.
In case anyone has a PS3 that went belly up during the outage, or sold/traded one, and therefore need to deactivate a system, you can do this;
Once you have reset your PSN password go to the main QRIOCITY web site (I've spelled it out so this will post immediately);
www dot qriocity dot com
Under the 'Manage Account' section, there is a 'sign in' button. Click it and sign in using the email address and password for your registered PSN ID. You'll now see a list of PlayStation 3 and PSP and other devices you may have registered with the PSN or Qriocity services. Click on PlayStation 3, and you will be presented with a list of the systems. I believe that unless you have given them a nickname before in the account management screens here, they will simply be listed in numerical order, 1, 2, 3, and so on. I believe that the systems are listed in chronological order. So if the ps3 you need to deactivate is the first one you ever had, you can probably pick the first on the list.
However I would advise having this account management screen open on a PC when you do this, so that you can test your working PS3 to make sure it is still active - just in case you select the wrong one. If you do, you can always re-activate it.
Other than that, just go have some fun.

But the message when you go to reset it says; "You have been e-mailed a reset, this may take 24 hours." It was something like that I can't clearly remember how it was worded.

I'm excited for LA noire. I need a few reviews just to be safe, so I can take advantage of the amazon deal and use the $15 credit on Infamous 2.
PGU: Before the network went down I was a madman. I platinumed AC2 and infamous and was chipping away on Enslaved & my 2nd playthrough of demons soul's. I threw my controller at the wall after losing 60,000 souls and realized I need to chill on Demon souls for a bit. Lol I took a crack @ platinum on Deadspace 2 as well but currently don't have the time of 4 hours in between each of the only 3 saves they give you on hardcore. if anyone else is trying that, at what chapter did you use your first save? It's So close I can taste it. I hopped on the $35 kmart deal for portal 2 and will dive into the co-op as soon as I get home. It's certainly one of the most charming, hysterical series in the history of gaming.
On another note, I am a frequent visitor of this site & in the past I couldn't comment as much as I wanted to. The reason being I had a blackberry tour and it was a bi*** surfing on the net with that thing. Thanks to my new Droid Incredible 2, those days are over. :) Speaking of Droids, Ben could your new venture be a Psxextreme app? That would be sweet!
I really love this site. Bens articles and the community really take me back to the days of the unofficial PSM magazine. Anyone else remember that mag?

Finished Dragon Age 2 and I'm *dying* to discuss that ending with someone...!
Rediscovered Red Dead Redemption, oh man what a game that is. Last time I played it it was mostly coop, and the game is seriously lacking in the multiplayer department. It's boring, no less. As a single player game however, it's *amazing*.
This week, two words: Portal coop.

I spent most the week playing Motorstorm.
This review describes it pretty well, I think :)
http://www.titanreviews.com/#/motorstormapocreview/4551430520
My "like new" copy of Batman showed up a few days ago from eBay. Like New as in stickered up Hollywood Video box and scratched up disc. At least it worked and installed to the HDD just fine. pheww.
Don't know what I want to start playing next. I think for now I;ll soak in more Motorstorm and randomly play stuff.
