Gamers Embarrass Themselves Once Again
I tell you, 2012 hasn't been a proud year to be a gamer.
First there was the Mass Effect 3 outcry, during which there was enough obscene entitlement and spoiled brat syndrome to make any well-adjusted, mature individual turn away with disgust.
And now this.
So Hurricane Sandy generated a lot of problems on the east coast this past week. New York was hit especially hard, and that caused a few previously laid plans to go awry, including Rockstar's intention to release the new Grand Theft Auto V trailer. Well, all right. Makes perfect sense to me. But a few hours later, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw, over at DarkZero, a summary of fans mouthing off at Rockstar because they didn't get that trailer. And I mean, totally ticked off.
Seriously? Seriously? This is how horribly immature we've really become? This is the level of growth to which we can attest? Yelling at a company because they suffered through a hurricane and didn't get a freakin' video game trailer up the exact instant they had intended to? The worst part is that this kind of behavior gets a lot of attention; attention beyond the boundaries of our little world, and trust me when I say, a whole lot of mainstream individuals are seeing this and going, "Yeah, I knew they were just a bunch of kids. Or kids in grown-up skin."
And really, what can we say against that at this point? How is any of this even remotely defensible? This isn't about the launch of a game; this is about a trailer. This is because a video didn't show up on the Internet. This is because gamers can't seem to help themselves; they just can't find a way to act like grown humans. And even if what some are saying is true, even if Rockstar could put up the trailer but is choosing not to for other reasons, so the hell what? Are you honestly going to take to forums and message boards and complain because you didn't get your trailer this week?
Get...a...life. Please.
I thought that as gaming got more popular, it'd be easier to admit to a group of professionals at a party that I'm a game journalist and yeah, I like games. But it seems that with every passing month, it gets harder and harder to admit. It's all the worse because I have no way of defending my fellow gamers. All I can do is shrug and go, "Yeah, well, children will be children. I will apologize on their behalf because they never will."

People, of any age, get real blazen and crude because their is nothing to fear. Say what you will, and I know there are some fun experiences to be had if you have a bunch of mature friends, this is only going to get worse as more companies go the way of MP gaming.

Seriously a natural disaster and they are pissed off about a trailer that will likely be released in a couple days/weeks? Its not even like the game got delayed because of it.
This planet could use some large scale natural selection about now :P

It's not.
This isn't the voice of a gaming majority or even close to it. This is humans.
This is a percentage of people who have priorities screwed in more places than one, and these people exist in every facet of society to some degree or another. This just happens to be one of those outbursts that has irrupted in the gaming sect, like Tomb Raider rage, like Mass Effect before it.
I say, avoid these guys and don't give them any attention. They want it.

Also there's a lot more 12 year olds on gaming forums than fine art forums.

To be blunt, "any idiot can hold a controller", and it shows. Of all the communities I've been part of on the web over the years, I've met the highest amount of low-brows in the gaming communities.
Fanatical, irrational, aggressive, disrespectful pricks with a kind of behavior that simply had not been accepted whatsoever in other circles.
It really is depressing at times, but it's something you kinda just have to learn to tackle, that's how common it is. IMHO.

The problem is everyone has become dependent and addicted to electronics. I was watching the news and they were interviewing young kids affected by "Sandy", and they actually said they enjoyed being free of electronics. It gave them more time with family and were videod playing outside dispite the effects the storm caused. That was neat to see, and it was good to hear that they realize there is more important things.
The Internet is a place where anyone can say anything and it's terrible that something like this is happening. It's disgraceful really.

Everything is set up to reinforce this idea so it's no wonder people of lesser intelligence fall into the trap.

Oh wait, I'm in the wrong forum. Sorry guys.
By the way, I'm not bothered by it cause I knew this world is not perfect, that there are people who really doesn't care about the others only themselves and their own interests. Also don't be ashamed being a gamer or a game journalist. Other groups also have things to be ashamed about. Ex: cycling enthusiast, guns, medicine, teacher, priest, etc. They all have done things by their people that is shameful. Also to those people who will judge gamers based of what that minority has done shamefully, well they are close minded as well, so don't be ashamed of them.
Like Roy Mustang said, " The world is not perfect, but that what makes it more beautiful."

If people can be this petty and immature about such a thing... Then I say make 'em wait. Nature just Rick-Rolled your sorry whiny butts. You wanted GTA V, but you got news coverage instead. I can't believe that people are this petty about such inconsequ...

Half of them don't even read a freakin' article before laying down judgement on it, as with most things in life.
I also have a friend who was stupid enough to post his rage over the fact he'd taken a vacation from work based around the ACIII release and he was pissed because GS cancelled all midnight openings in out area. The weather wasn't so bad in and around his town, but the storm featured wildly varying bands changing conditions every 5-10 miles or less. He looked like an idiot and people berated him on fb(rightfully so).
Frankly, the world is far more full of idiots than it is fair minded individuals.
And I feel I need to add one last thing. It's a TRAILER!!! It's not a demo, it's not the game release. It's a preview video. Who doesn't know whether they're purchasing that game and needs to see footage so badly as to change their minds at this point? Seriously people, I'm going to back Ben by repeating, "GET A LIFE".
