The original Assassin’s Creed game, released back in 2007, is reportedly up next on Ubisoft’s slate to be their next remake in the long-running stealth-action franchise.

The report comes from reliable insider xj0nathan, (via PSU) who shares he has heard from an official source directly from Ubisoft that they are planning to remake the classic original and have been planning to do so since about 2023.

The original Assassin’s Creed game was groundbreaking during its time and birthed one of the most successful gaming franchises of all time, but there’s no question that the 2007 title is very dated and does not hold up well in modern standards. It makes sense Ubisoft has the original next up in their remake plans.

The first remake in the series, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, is releasing this July and is a huge first step for Ubisoft as it is their first remake ever, of any of their games. The original game was considered ahead of its time when it first launched on PS3, but almost two-decades later, fans believe that it is time for the game to be modernized.

Ubisoft has also shared that the possibility of this remake happening depends on the reception and sales to Black Flag Resynced this summer. If it fails to live up to expectations, Ubisoft may not move forward with a remake of the first game.

Whether the first game gets the remake treatment or not, the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise is bright despite nearing its two-decade anniversary. Ubisoft seems committed to remaking the classic and historic first game, but the critical reception and sales of Black Flag Resynced all but decide the fate of it happening.
