This is where you unlock courses and cars for use in Single Race, Time Attack, and Wireless Battle. You can only participate in the Baisc Tour at first, but more tours will become unlocked as you progress through the game. If you don't feel like racing in the main tours, there is a Create-a-Tour option that allows you to customize a tour just for fun. You cannot, however, unlock anything by playing custom tours. Single Race =========== Using the cars and courses you've unlocked in the World Tour, you can enjoy a leisurely race at your favorite track or practice in a hardcore Class and course that you can't beat in World Tour. Time Attack =========== Just your car, a course and the clock. Get a feel for a course without having to worry about other drivers, or try to beat your previous lap times for a challange. Each Trial is 3 laps. Wireless Battle =============== Think you're pretty good, huh? Well, let’s see what happens when you move from the realm of artificial intelligence to real inte-... well... people. Race up to eight others wirelessly using the Ad Hoc Mode Wi-Fi feature of your PSP. You can either host a race or search for one in progress. Options ======= This is where you can change a few of the games options, but more importantly play the badass Mini-Game if you're tired of all those modern graphics and sounds. If it makes any difference, I usually ride with the DYN Type Drift car, but it's really just a matter of personal taste. Later on, when things get more difficult, check each tour's section for info on how to clear it. ********************************************* BASIC TOUR ************************************* QFBA ** ------------------------------ BASIC 01: INITIATION Class 1 Unlocked By: Starting the Game Unlocks: Class 2 Abeille Type S, Basic 02, Basic 04, Basic 05 The World Tour begins with a 3-round series in Class 1. Is the game over?! Hardly. On to the next and hardest tours. ------------------------------ PRO 19: CRINALE DUEL Class 6 Unlocked By: Completing Pro 14 Unlocks: EX 33, EX 34, Special Class Crinale, Downtown Rave City [R] Finally, the time has come. This Class 6 tour is comprised of 4 one-on-one against the Soldat Crinale, also known as the "Devil." Race 1: Downtown Rave City (Finish 1st to advance) Race 2: Downtown Rave City [R] (Finish 1st to advance) Race 3: Midtown Expressway (Finish 1st to advance) Race 4: Midtown Expressway [R] (Finish 1st to clear tour PRO 19) Note: This is quite a change from what we've been used to. The only hope of winning all these duels is to use the Hyper Knight Raggio Type-R and use lots of boost. The general thing that worked for me was to use boost periodically to keep up with and maybe pass him, then save two units for the final stretch on the final lap. In Downtown Rave City, when you get out of the underground tunnel near the end, lay on the boost and don't let up. Do the same right before you take the final curve after that big jump in Downtown Rave City [R]. Midtown Expressway requires you to do it right before the final striped corner (the final corner with lines painted on the pavement). And finally, on Midtown Expressway [R], do it as soon as you come out of the tunnel and into that long, wide, and uneven sweeping left corner. All these are hard, but doable. ------------------------------ PRO 20: ANGELUS DUEL Class 6 Unlocked By: Completing Pro 14 Unlocks: EX 38, Special Class Angelus Drive a Class 6 machine to defeat the Katama Angelus, also know as "Angel." Race at the speed of light through all 4 races and the Angelus could be yours! Race 1: Greenpeak Highlands (Finish 1st to advance) Race 2: Seaside Route 765 (Finish 1st to advance) Race 3: Lakeside Parkway [R] (Finish 1st to advance) Race 4: Seaside Route 765 [R] (Finish 1st to clear tour PRO 20) Note: These are real tough. In fact, you may wish to go into some EX races and unlock a few Type-Z upgrades before seriously attempting this tour. Type-Z with lots and lots of boost is the ticket. The key to victory is to stay back. Do not try to race the Angules like you did the Crinale last tour. The Angules has a habit of letting off massive amounts of boost when a rival car is near, so you might as well save all that boost you'd use to catch back up for later. So, you should stay back and store up boost, making it so you have 3 full tanks on the last lap. It's okay to use an occasional boost if you feel the Angelus is getting too far ahead (maybe by 2 or 3 seconds), but make sure you have that 3 on the last lap. Then, about a quarter of a lap away from the finish, unload everything you've got. All this boost should catch him unprepared, allowing you to rocket by and cross the finish line before he boosts back. Also let it be known that an INTIMATE knowledge of every little tiny twist and turn of the course is required to keep up with the Angelus, let alone pass it. Good luck!! ------------------------------ PRO 21: EAT UP OR DIE Class 6 Unlocked By: Completing Pro 18 Unlocks: Pac-Man Car, EX 35 A 2-round series in Class 6. your opponent is that little yellow guy. Since his debut in 1980, Pac-Man has eaten, and eaten, and eaten! He has consumed several hundred million dots by now! The next dot could be you. Race 1: Ridge City Highway (Finish 1st to advance) Race 2: Crystal Coast Highway (Finsih 1st to clear tour PRO 20) Note: Okay, this announcer is just creepy. Pac-Man is probably the most trouble-free Special car to get. Just use the Hyper Knight Type-R, and like the previous Special tours, lay on the boost and drift every chance you get. Do this, and the little yellow guy's car will soon be yours. ------------------------------ PRO 22: THE ARCHANGEL Class Special Unlocked By: Completing Pro 15 Unlocks: EX 36, Kamata Type-Z Tune-up Kit A 3-round, Special Class tour against a pack of ANGELUS. Race 1: Crimsonrock Pass (Finish 3rd or better to advance) Race 2: Ridge City Highway [R] (Finish 2nd or better to advance) Race 3: Diablo Canyon Road [R] (Finish 1st to clear tour PRO 22) Note: Not nearly as fustrating as the duels, this tour should be moderatly easy now that you can use the Special cars. I used Pac-Man, with his tons of boost. The key is, of course, to use that boost any time the Nitrous guage fills. The final race may take you a few times, as you have to drive the track almost perfectly to have any chance, but overall this tour shouldn't be too exasperating. Don't forget to use the Jump-Start technique for an extra edge. ------------------------------ PRO 23: DEVIL'S MARCH Class Special Unlocked By: Completing Pro 17 Unlocks: Soldat Type-Z Tune Kit A 4-round, Special Class tour against the devils. Race 1: Union Hill District [R] (Finish 4th or better to advance) Race 2: Crimsonrock Pass [R] (Finish 3rd or better to advance) Race 3: Greenpeak Highlands [R] (Finish 2nd or better to advance) Race 4: Union Hill District (Finish 1st to clear tour PRO 23) Note: This is it. The final Pro tour, and it couldn't be easier. The key to winning this tour is the Kamata Angelus. If you haven't yet unlocked it, do so. Without the Angelus, this tour, especially the last two races, are almost impossible. Unlock the Angelus, use lots of boost, don't hit any other cars and you should be fine. ********************************************* EX TOUR ************************************* QFEX ** ------------------------------ EX 24: D UNLIMITED Class 3 Unlocked By: Completing Pro 12 Unlocks: EX 37, EX 38, Gnade Type-R Tune-Up Kit The first EX tour is a 2-round Class 3 tour. For all their talk, this tour is almost disappointingly easy (don't worry, if you want to get your ass handed to you just hold on... you'll see). To win I just used an Angelus, and pretty much blew by the entire field within two laps. Standard rules apply: no hitting other cars, know what's coming up on the track et cetra et cetra. Once you've completed all the EX tours, the MAX tour will be unlocked. When they say it's hard, believe them this time. ********************************************* MAX TOUR ************************************* QFMX ** Note: The MAX tours only appear in the US version of the game, not the JPN. Note: These tours are hard, almost impossible. You will not win ONE of them the first time you try. If you're the kinda person who throws their controller against the wall when you reach a particularly frustrating part of a game, stay away from these tours. You're controller costs 10 times as much now. For those of you dedicated or insane enough to wanna go ahead, all I can offer you is a wish of good luck and these vague tips: 1) Try your best to keep up. Easier said then done by far, I know, but if you're 10 seconds behind the lead car on the final lap, you're not gonna win. 2) Use boost to get around cars. These cars have unlimted boost, and sometimes they can rocket off with no boost at all. As soon as you boost, the others most likely will too. This is where Tip #3 comes in. 3) Block. Use your rear-view mirror in first person view. Once you get past a car, it will try anything and everything to get by you again. If you block it, you'll get its speed which will help you with Tip #1. 4) Balance the boost. Try to use as much as you can to keep up and pass the other guys, but make sure you have 3 full tanks on the final lap with the finish line coming up. You'll most likely be racing the lead car by then. Use your boost to get by him a little bit from the finish line. He'll fire off boost and will try to pass you. Keep firing off your boost as soon as the previous tank is empty. Then Tip #3 his ass if he trys anything funny. That's not much I'm afraid. There isn't some special secret that will let you blow by the competition; it's basically pure luck more then anything else. Some races you have a chance, and some, even if you do everything perfect and break every course record, you don't. Try these tips and stay at it, and eventually you will be Ridge Racer champion! ------------------------------ MAX 40: OPUS 1 Class 1 Unlocked By: Completing all main tours. These are corners that look like they'll be sharp, but only last a fraction of a second. Let off the gas for these, but do not drift them, doing so will cause you to lose you speed. The course is wide all around and will give you plenty of room to pass the competition when the need arises. ------------------------------ CRYSTAL COAST HIGHWAY Length: 3.833 miles Difficulty: Medium/Hard Unlocked By: Completing Tour BASIC 06 [R] Unlocked By: Completing Tour PRO 13 ************************************************* * * * * * _--_ * * / \ * * _____---/\ / / * * / \ / ------ / * * \ -___- \ * * -------- \ * * / | * * ----- 1 * * / | * * / | * * / 2 * * | | * * | -------|||---------- | * * / / \ | * * ------- -___/ * * * * * ************************************************* Tips: Full of short drifts, making passing a little difficult. The road is usually wide enough to get around a car by drifting another line, but it is still harder then just passing on a straight away. You will always have the analogue nub pushed one direction or the other. Also, take note of the narrow, curving, high-speed tunnel near the end [1-2]. It is a little narrower in places, but still gives you plenty of room to pass on the high speed straights. More long sweeping drifts, you may wish to consider a DNY drift car, especially because of the long, 360 degree right-hander that can give you more than a full tank of boost if you hit it going fast enough [1]. Also note when you're coming up to the finish line that there is a steep downhill series of S curves [2-3] that have to be negotiated perfectly to prevent hitting the wall and losing speed. ------------------------------ DOWNTOWN RAVE CITY Length: 3.853 miles Difficulty: Easy Unlocked By: Completing Tour PRO 12 [R] Unlocked By: Completing Tour PRO 19 ************************************************* * __ * * _1-__ ___/ \ * * / ------------------ | * * | | * * | \ * * | | * * | | * * | | * * | | * * | | * * | | * * | | * * | _- 3 | * * 2 -- \ | * * -------______4 _ \ 5 * * | / ---___/ * * | / * * | / * * -_- * ************************************************* Tips: My favorite course! Pure fun! This is a course that has no real speed restrictions. The road is wide, the corners mild and flowing, and the straight-aways long. Everything is designed for speed. Which is why it is important not to hit any cars or walls to slow yourself down. Fire off some boost after the first left-hand corner before the big jump [1]. The faster you go when you hit it the more awesome it is. A good way to get boost is to stay in one long drift through the series of 3 turns after the huge jump [2-3], and drift in the underground tunnels, which are also a good place to fire off some boost [4-5]. ------------------------------ GREENPEAK HIGHLANDS Length: 2.505 miles Difficulty: Hard Unlocked By: Unlocked from Beginning [R] Unlocked By: Completing Tour BASIC 09 ************************************************* * * * _--_ * * | --_ / \ * * | --_ / \ * * | --2 / \ * * \ \_ | __|__ * * \ --_ | | * * \ --_ | | * * \ --_ | | * * | -1__-- | * * _| \ * * _- \ * * / \ * * _- \ * * / _ \ * * | _-- \ 4 _- * * \ __ _-- \ _-- * * 3__------ -----____-- \__-- * * * ************************************************* Tips: My least favorite course. Greenpeak Highlands features many corners that won't make your machine go into a drift, but are too sharp to take at full speed, causing you to hit the wall and be passed. Also, be cautious of S-curves that tempt you to drive through the grass to avoid them, as there are usually sand traps [1, 2, 4] on either side of the course, causing your car to slow down and lose speed. There are also many weird uphill drifts that would be impossible in real life [3]. Be sure to give the other cars plenty of room when you pass, because this course is pretty high speed. Also, be careful about a half of a lap in, as it narrows into a two lane stretch for a while, making passing extremely difficult [1-2]. Other then that, be sure to take the gentle curves for all the drift they have, and fire your nitrous off primarily on the long straight by the finish line [3]. ------------------------------ MIDTOWN EXPRESSWAY Length: 2.870 miles Difficulty: Easy/Medium Unlocked By: Unlocked from Beginning [R] Unlocked By: Completing Tour BASIC 07 ************************************************* * _____ * * _______________/ \ * * / \ 1 * * / | * * \ | * * | | * * | | * * | | * * ____ | * * | | * * | | * * | | * * | | 2 __- * * | \__-- \ * * | __ | * * | 4_/ --_ | * * | ______-- --__ __/ * * \_ __/ 3--- * * -- * ************************************************* Tips: The counterpart of Downtown Rave City, Midtown Express is almost as fun and just as easy. Make sure you hit the first one going straight or you'll most likely be slipping every which way trying to correct. Also, about half way through, the course narrows and becomes a little harder with small sharp turns [3-4], but they shouldn't be that much trouble. ------------------------------ RIDGE CITY HIGHWAY Length: 3.646 miles Difficulty: Medium Unlocked By: Completing Tour BASIC 02 [R] Unlocked By: Completing Tour BASIC 05 ************************************************* * * * * * ___1_________ * * / 2_______ * * / \ * * \ --------- * * \ / * * \ / * * / / 3--------------4 * * _ / / / / * * / \__/ / / / * * | /______/ / * * | ----------- * * | / * * \ / * * ------|||---------------- * * * * * * * ************************************************* Tips: Starts off easy with wide shallow corners to drift on, and a straight away afterwards to let off some of that acquired boost [1]. Be careful of the S-curve located halfway through the straight away [2]. The second half is slightly more difficult. It has quite a few tricky corners, forcing you to choose a pretty limited line in order to avoid hitting a wall [3-4]. Because of this, it may be hard to pass in those areas because your opponents are also taking that line. Overall though, not a very hard course. ------------------------------ SEASIDE ROUTE 765 Length: 2.552 miles Difficulty: Easy Unlocked By: Unlocked from Beginning [R] Unlocked By: Completing Tour BASIC 04 ************************************************* * * * * * 2_________ * * / 3------ * * / \ * * \ ------ * * \ / * * \ / * * / / * * / / * * _ / / * * / \ / / * * | - ---------- * * | / * * | / * * -------|||-------1-------- * * * * * * * ************************************************* Tips: A short fast track with mild, easy drifting corners. Use your boost on main straight away by the finish line [1] or the second one located half way into the lap [2]. Take this area in one long drift to obtain maximum boost. Later on, watch out for the sharp, 90 degree right turn onto the dam [2], and the S-curve [3] leading into the tunnel. It is possible to take this corner without slowing down or drifting if you stay to the left. After you take a left after the tunnel, make sure your car is pointed slightly right when you hit the big jump [4] to make sure you're lined up with the finish line. ------------------------------ SUNSET DRIVE Length: 2.657 miles Difficulty: Easy Unlocked By: Unlocked from Beginning. This course is not as fast however, and there are some tricky corners to watch out for. Namely the sharp corner at the wide open part near the sea [1], and before you enter the final tunnel [2]. The long steady semi-circle corner is a great place to aquire boost [3]. Also, there are fewer places to use boost, so you may wish to unload 1 or 2 when you get to the main straight-away [4]. ------------------------------ UNION HILL DISTRICT Length: 4.125 miles Difficulty: Medium/Hard Unlocked By: Unlocked from Beginning. Make sure that after the first corner you're pointed straight ahead quickly, as there is a jump [1] then a sharp corner followed by a steep up-hill climb [2]. The speed you get through the corner is the speed you will be going all the way to the top of the hill. You can either make up or lose lots of time in this part. It can be hard to tell until the last minute, but you want to take a right in the tunnel. After the tunnel is a long up and down narrow straight away [3]. Fire off the boost when you're going downhill- it won't help you at all going up. Also use caution when passing cars here, because of the narrowness. After the second tunnel is a tricky corner that is hard left but turns into hard right in the middle [4], prepare your drift accordingly. VIII. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( TIPS )))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) QF08 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Getting a jump on the start, submitted by J. Theal: It appears that you can get the speed boost at the beginning of any race, as long as your needle is above 6 but below the red (over-rev) zone on the tachometer at the exact moment the announcer finishes the ...3 ...2 ...1... countdown and says "GO!" The needle can be trending up or down (accelerating or decelerating RPM’s) at that moment. - In a continuation of the above tip: Since the Rally X car doesn't have an RPM range where it redlines, it's kinda hard to find the right spot for you to get a boost at the start. However, if you keep the RPM meter just above the number 12, you can start off at around 114 MPH or so. This leads to a pretty nice jump on the compitition. - Do not hit other cars. Doing so will cause you to "switch speeds." For example, if you hit a car moving 130 MPH while going 170 MPH, the car you hit will get your speed (170) while you get its speed (130). Therefore the hit car will leave you in the dust, and it could take (in later stages) a quater of a lap or more to get caught back up. Not fun if it's the first place car and the finish line is right ahead of you. - In the later stages, to avoid hitting another car while in a drift (which could potentially cost you the race) try going into a drift either late or early. Since you have very limited control in a drift, going in early or late will (hopefully) put you on a different line then the car in front of you, allowing you to pass him easy and painlessly. - The nitrous gauge will fill up by performing drifts. The faster the drift, the faster the gauge will fill up. - The nitrous gauge cannot be filled while nitrous is in use, but by utilizing the increased speed immediately after a nitrous boost, it is possible to recharge the nitrous quickly. Thanks man! - Namco and Namco Hometek for this awesome lauch title. What a great way to start off a system! - Sony, for making the PSP. I had my doubts at first, but they all vanished the second I booted that sexy little rectangle up. Just when I was getting over the PS2, Sony has to go and get me in their clutches for another 5 years >:O - You, for reading and (hopefully) getting some use out of this document. The only reason I did this was for you. Yes, you, right there. No... no, not that guy behind you... YOU. - Gamefaqs.com and CJayC for hosting this and the thousands of other guides out there. Welp, this is the end. I'd just like to remind you all: Ridge Racer is a Registered Trademark of Namco Ltd.
