Sony's Playstation has a Baby!

We have received a lot of email about PS One, and most of it from readers who are pretty much confused. So let me clear up those confusions and explain what exactly is PS One.

The most important fact that all of you should know is that PS One is not a new system. It is simply a new, redesigned version of the original Playstation console. Looking at the functionalities of PS One, it is the same exact thing as the Playstation, but it does add a special slot for connecting and mounting an optional LCD screen that will be sold separately.

Now, the other big confusion is the category that the system belongs to. "Is it a handheld?" No, it is not a handheld or a pocket system, rather it is a portable console. The PS One is about three times smaller than its original counterpart and weights a little over a pound. It doesn't have the dimensions of a pocket system, but its smaller size and the optional LCD screen make it a very reasonable entertainment unit for people who are always on the airplane or for kids riding in the back of the car.

I hope this ant-confusion update makes sense to many of you who understood PS One the wrong way.

After many weeks of speculation and rumors, Sony has just revealed their mini PS, and they have given it the name of PS ONE. The company showed system to the press and you can take a look at them here. The PS One looks awesome, it is incredibly cute and may give GameBoy a run for its money. The system will come packaged with a Dual Shock controller, AV Multi Cable, and an AC Adapter. What makes the PS One so incredible is that it will allow owners of a PS One to purchase an LCD screen (specifically designed for the PS One) and plug it into the mini gray box. The LCD screen seems to carry the same standard ratio as a TV and features speakers for full portability. The LCD screen will be available at the PS One's launch in Japan but we will have to wait 'till Spring 2001 to get ours. The Japanese release of the PS One will be in July 2000, and it will sell for about 15,000 Yen ($141), while the US release will follow with a September 2000 release.

The measurements for the PS One are as follows: 193 mm (W) X 38 mm (H) X 144 mm (D), the weight is only a mere 550 g, and Sony expects to sell 8 million units worldwide for FY 2001, and that is the PS One and Playstation combined. On top of all those maniacal features Sony will also allow gamers to tap their cell-phones into a PS One, Playstation or PS2 controller port in order to give the system internet connectivity on the go. At the same conference, Sony also released the info on it's hard drive for the PS2 and we have the story on that with the photos.
