The
original BMX game in development, Acclaim has
revealed more of Dave Mirra's fully licensed and
endorsed BMX title. With Activision's Mat
Hoffman title, and THQ's recently announced T.J.
Lavin title, it look like the BMX competition is
getting more stiff than ever. With three titles
being developed and are currently scheduled to be
released this year, gamers will have one hard choice
thinking of which one to buy. Dave Mirra has won
multiple X-Games medals over the past few years.
Mirra won't be alone of helping Acclaim work out the
project, Ryan Nyquist a fellow BMX-er will lend his
skills so that both Ryan and Dave can help Acclaim
work out the physics, stage design and more. Check
out the first look at Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX,
which is currently scheduled to be released this
December.
Visually the game is definitely on par with Mat
Hoffman's title. The character detail has been set
and the result looks incredibly good, for the early
part. It is hard to believe that the game is at an
early stage, and Acclaim has already made the BMX
title look so pleasing to the eye. environmental
detail is (gulp) better than Mat Hoffman's at this
point. By looking at all of these screens Dave
Mirra's title has larger and more complex yet better
looking areas. The bikes look no different than
those found in Mat Hoffman's title. Enjoy these
screens for now.
The gameplay is already getting my hopes up. From
what I have read the multiplayer modes may be better
than Tony Hawk's or Mat Hoffman's. Decide for
yourself:
B-M-X: A mode like
HORSE
Gnarliest Crash: I hope
this is self explanatory (fingers crossed).
Sickest Trick: The
highest scoring trick gets the gold.
Longest Grind: (Duh!)
Just hearing the modes makes me think how much fun
it will be playing this game two players. There is
quite a variety of courses to choose from, 12 to be
exact (hopefully some secret ones), and Acclaim has
also said that there will be a lot of freedom all
around in each course. Ooh, what really made me
tingle is that the game will have a unique feature
called Skeletal Dynamics System (SDS), this is where
when the biker falls and his crash is created in
real time! So that means that it will a rarity that
you will see the same crash over and over again. As
always Acclaim says that there will be a very
promising and deep trick system. Ten characters will
be included, Dave Mirra and Ryan Nyquist will be two
of them that's for sure. As you progress through out
the games main mode (season or career) you will gain
more skill, and many more possible moves. I should
also mention that the developer who will be creating
this title is Z-Axis, creator of Thrasher: Skate and
Destroy, so it is a very safe bet that this will be
the more realistic BMX title out of the bunch.
BMX titles are the next big thing this year, three
are scheduled to be released this year and I won't
be surprised if another developer creates another
one. It's a tough call, between Mat Hoffman and Dave
Mirra, I would just buy both of them. They both look
equally impressive and I would definitely get both
titles. Until now, we will try to update this
preview as much as we can.
