Square and Electronics Arts have already made
announcements about the next three Final Fantasy
sequels. Final Fantasy IX, X and XI were
demonstrated in one way or another some time ago and
now they just made another announcement.
Fantasy IX that was reportedly finished for months
and the company has just announced that the release
date for the Japanese market is set for June 17th,
2000. This is the last Final Fantasy that is going
to be released on the original Playstation so they
better make it best. Once the title is released in
Japan, PSX Extreme will try to get a import review
on it. We expect to see the title in US by the next
Christmas.

Screenshots
have been added. Although they are very low in
quality, that's all there is out there right now.
These are photos taken from the screens running the
demos of Final Fantasy games during the Square
Millennium in Japan.

The
Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread is Here!
Guess what Square/EA has just revealed the first
impressions of the three new games, and all of them
were Final Fantasy Games. Yep that's right Square
has just announced not one, not two, but three brand
new Final Fantasy games. Final Fantasy 9 (IX) will
be released for PS1 this summer in Japan. FF9 has
actually been completed since December '99, the game
brings back the artwork of Yoshitaka Amano and it
shows the deformed characters who are back but they
don't look all cut up like the FF7 characters did.
The characters are more polished and the game uses
the PSX's power even more. Unlike FF7 and FF8, Final
Fantasy 9 will feature more of medieval style
gameplay instead of futuristic surroundings. Square
prohibited any photo taking during the demonstration
of the upcoming titles in Japan, but that didn't
stop some people who got away with a few shots. To
be honest I have seen the screens of FF9 and they
look breathtaking. The game features more FMV
goodness and more quality as well. FF9 will be
released this summer in Japan and my guess is that
the US version will be released January or February
2001.
Not only was FF9 unveiled but FF10 was too. The game
will take very good use of PS2 and the screens that
I saw prove it. FF10 will be compatible via Sony's
Play Online technology that will be released
somewhere around 2001. That means you can play FF10
against other people, much like Ultima Online for
PC. This title also used polygonal backgrounds
instead if the pre-renderings, so that may mean that
we would use the environments a lot more. It was
shown running at a fluid max 60 frames per second.
Still more info to be released on FF10 but wait
until E3 this May and you should see a ton of public
shots released. FF10 is scheduled to be released
during Spring 2001.
FF11 had the least info released but there were one
or two shots of the game in action, and the title
will be strictly done for online gaming. FF11 will
be released summer of 2001. The reason we have no
screens is because there are none out there to post,
but as soon as we get our hands on them, you'll
know.
