RollerJam

Preview

EA announced today that they are currently in development of the very first rollerblading game for the PS. RollerJam is a game based on the show, it is where both men and women rollerblade around a circle and at the same time they get to beat each other's brains out. Sounds cool?

The game is expected to be released this Summer 2000. It is in its alpha stage and it shows. The characters are still pretty jaggy and need a lot of work. So if EA takes their time wisely, we can have one extremely detailed as well exhilarating title on our hands. Though the animations of racers aren't so hot (yet), the backgrounds are. But do you really look at the backgrounds when playing a game that requires so much concentration? Who is going to say "ooh, look at that pixely two-dimensional guy sitting in the 3rd row"? That's why I suggest EA decrease the backgrounds, dim them out if they can and put a lot more detail into the racers, they need it.

The gameplay hasn't been talked much, but if you have watched the show at least once then you know what this is all about. You most likely will have a punch button, hopefully a throw button, and also the ability to perform a special attack, either with a few button strikes, or just a simple button hit, a'la WWF Smackdown. What is known and is confirmed are the teams: New York Enforcers, Nevada Hot Dice, California Quakes, Illinois Rio and Florida Sundogs will show up on the team roster. A season mode will be the game's meat, this is where you pick a blader and you race with him/her improving his skills and stats. Then you have the two-player mode, which is self explanatory. The Pummel Time mode is where two skaters go head-to-head and battle it out to the finish.

Expect RollerJam to be released this Summer 2000. If EA really knows what they are doing then we all might be getting the next violent Tony Hawk of rollerblading games. But we will just have to see and wait.
