Last November when Tomorrow Never Dies was released,
the game was bombarded with negative feedback. I
frankly enjoyed the game, though it didn't last long
because it was just a decent title. The most
disappointing thing about TND was that it was
nothing like GoldenEye 007. They released it in 3rd
person view instead of the preferred first person
shooter. Over a month and a half after The World is
Not Enough was released in movie theatres, EA
decided that it would give the Bond license another
try. What no one knew about Bond's next title, was
that it was going to be available not only for PS2
and PC, but for the original Playstation as well. We
have first screens of TWINE in action, and this game
is already making our pants wet.
The gameplay is now as you all wanted, 1st person in
the style of GoldenEye. The engine looks a lot like
the Quake 2 engine but it isn't, in-fact it is
actually a highly modified version of TND. Now that
the title is in 1st person, there is no detail
attention needed for Bond (except for the hands).
The environments look like they received the most
attention, currently the game is at an extremely
early stage, so the graphics should look much more
cleaner than this. The enemies as you can see are
already getting much detail, surprisingly they
actually have faces complete with eyes, a nose and a
mouth. Not much more can be said on the visuals, but
as we get closer and closer to the release of TWINE
we will surely update this preview with more
screens.
Halelujah! There will be a multi-player mode of some
sort in all versions of TWINE. The PC version will
feature network play, the PS2 will hopefully have a
4 player mode and if possible an internet play mode
as well, and the PS will most likely have a two
player mode. If you ask me I suggest using the PSX
engine of Quake 2 for TWINE, it will be easier to
make a four-player mode since Quake 2 already
supports a four-player Deathmatch mode via
multi-tap. TWINE will have over 20 weapons to choose
from and 10 missions to kill on. Now what leaves me
hanging on whether or not we will have a chance to
drive the new BMW or Bond's boat through the London
Thames River.
The World Is Not Enough is expected to be released
late 2000. The game so far looks promising but it
looks like we may have to wait awhile for it in
order to know the game's full potential.
