Sony developing human-like robot to keep AIBO company.
For anyone who has ever wished they had a mini-me every now and then, Sony has finally answered your prayers. The company is to develop a robot with the ability to walk, dance, kick and change direction.
The project is code-named SDR-3X. The robot apparently includes 24 joints, is approximately 20 inches tall and has a weight of 11 pounds. The robot also features the impressive ability to recognize around 20 prerecorded words by way of two small microphones in its ear. Furthermore, the device is able to recognize definite colors using a CCD (charge-coupled device) camera, which is to crown the robot.
Despite all of the progress that has been made on the project, several question marks still linger. First of all, Sony is not sure when the robot will go on sale to the public, and is also uncertain how much the complex unit will cost; according to a company spokeswoman.
