Dreamcast gets the noose?

The writing is on the wall for Sega, as the longstanding company is expected to sever its remaining ties to the hardware development industry. It's predicted that Sega will, within the week, announce further changes to the already turbulent voyage of the Dreamcast, as industry experts foresee the company slicing the price of the groundbreaking console to a minute $99. Furthermore, Sega has plans to comment on industry speculation that Sega's enviable first party software will be distributed to rival platforms, such as Sony's PlayStation 2 and Nintendo's Game Boy Advance. Moreover, many industry experts predict that Sega will announce an eventual halt to Dreamcast production altogether. On this note, Sega of America recently confirmed a teleconference on Wednesday to divulge information on Sega's global plans for the year 2001.

At some point in the swirling firestorm of uncertainty plaguing the Sega corporation, the company announced that the Dreamcast would not be shipping in its present form for much longer. It seems that situation has now been realized, as Sega has forged an agreement with Pace Micro Technology, a European digital television technology provider. Under the terms of the agreement, the European company will manufacture a set-top box boasting Dreamcast technology. The upcoming product will also allow consumers to play Dreamcast games. The aforementioned set-top device is to be made available via cable, xDSL, and other digital technology providers.
