PS3 technology unmasked.

The Register, a British website, recently reported that the PlayStation 3 chip was unveiled at the International Solid-State Circuits Coference.

According to The Register, the chip's designer, Simplex Solutions, revealed the hallowed piece of technology: .18 microns in size, the Graphics Synthesizer will boast 256MB of on-die DRAM -- eight times the embedded memory of the comparatively diminutive PS2 chip. The GS3 will be able to push a staggering 75 million polygons per second with a fill rate of 1.2-2.6 billion pixels per second. The chip's 2KB internal bus allows for a bandwidth of 48GBps.

Simplex Solutions vice president Aurangzeb Khan maintains that the yields of the anticipated chip has met Sony's demands for the technology. Despite this, Simplex Solutions has not clarified its stance on lending the technology to the PS2's successor.
