Spider-Man 2 and X-Men 2 for PSOne!
It certainly is a happy day for PSOne owners today. Activision, the 3rd party publisher that just keeps on giving, is giving PSOne owners two new Marvel games. One will be a sequel to Spider-Man, subtitled Enter Electro, the other will be a sequel to X-Men Mutant Academy, Activision's X-Men brawler. No set release date for either game has been made but Activision points to before year's end, around Fall 2001 time.
"The Spider-Man and X-Men videogames have built on Marvel's 67-year history and expanded these renowned characters beyond traditional comic book fans, introducing them to an entirely new generation," said Ron Doornink, President and COO, Activision, Inc. "The latest lineup of games offers new characters, storylines and features that will continue to further the brands' popularity."
Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro will obviously feature Electro as the prime villain in the game. Spidey will have new moves, more levels of exploration and an overall deeper adventure to hopefully keep gamers going longer than the original did.
Activision wasn't hesitant to give the press info on X-Men: Mutant Academy 2. The new fighter will allow gamers to choose from 16 X-Men characters, the new hero/villains being Rogue, Nightcrawler, Forge, Havok and two unannounced characters believed to be villains. There will be six new stages to battle on, and the gameplay will also be made more flexible so that now gamers can pull off attacks in mid-air. Pulling off throws and special attacks will also be an inclusion in the new and more flexible fighting system. The graphics will be improved even further and the audio will be different than that found in the original.
A PS2 version of Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro is in the works as well, while it's not known if the PS2 and PSone versions share similarities, it is known that the two PSOne games are set for Fall 2001 releases. More announcements are scheduled for E3 2001.
