After 11 years and selling in excess of 100 million units, Sony has announced that it is ending production of the console that catapulted it to the top of the industry. Though the original gray-rectangle Playstation is a bit harder to find these days, the smaller and sleeker PSOne revision, an enormous back catalog of great games, and the occasional EA Sports port (even to this day!) have kept it alive around the world.
Sony reps says fret not, though, as the end of production doesn't necessarily mean you won't be able to find the consoles anymore. Not to mention the recent announcement that the PSP would become a PSOne emulator, capable of playing digitally downloaded Playstation titles.
So, R.I.P. old friend! It's been a good run, but it's time to let your younger brothers shine!
