THQ acquires Volition.

One of the largest gaming companies, THQ announces acquisition of Volition a developer known for the Descent series for PC and its upcoming PS2 titles including the anticipated Summoner and Red Faction. THQ is gearing up to full speed and seem to be placing a lot of emphasis on the Playstation 2 console since in March they acquired Yukes, the developer of WWF Smackdown who is currently working on a Smackdown game for PS2.

"Volition is a strategic addition to THQ's business," stated Brian Farrell, president and CEO, THQ. "Their technological capability and creative talent have brought about some of the most original, innovative gameplay in the industry. We look forward to the PlayStation 2 and PC launches of Summoner and Red Faction and many more contributions from the Volition teams."

The addition of Volition will probably mean little to us because the two companies have been working together for a long time, but with added cushion of THQs resources, the brains at Volition can do more of they do best, make good games.
