Gran Turismo Has Raced Into 50 Million Hearts In 10 Years

Most racing fans are probably still enjoying Gran Turismo 5: Prologue and are anxiously anticipating the release of the full product some time next year. This is one franchise that has always delivered top-quality titles that sell like mad, and Sony has just reinforced that fact.

According to Kotaku, Sony has revealed that in the decade since the original Gran Turismo released on the PlayStation, the massively popular series has sold over 50 million units. It was a phenomenon from the first day it hit store shelves way back in '98, and it has never ceased to be a phenomenon. Commonly recognized as being some of the most realistic driving simulators on earth, Sony and Polyphony Digital have pushed the envelope with each successive installment, and you can bet they will continue to do so. For the car lover and racing enthusiast in all of us, there's rarely anything better than the newest Gran Turismo.

By the way, Gran Turismo 3 was the biggest seller of the bunch, but we're starting to wonder if GT5 will break that record in due time. By the time it launches, the PS3's userbase will be higher, and based on what we see in Prologue, the fifth entry should certainly be the best yet.

Yep, I can't wait!
I'll get it, but not until later.
I'll have to wait for the reviews.
This just isn't my cup of tea.
