Kojima Graces Guiness World Records

Those who know and love this industry recognize Hideo Kojima as an established icon. Some may even call him a genius. And now, the rest of the world will know his name, as he has been officially inducted into the Guinness World Records.

According to Game Focus, Kojima was in London this week to pick up his Guinness certificates, for records that will be listed in the Guinness World Record: Gamer's Edition 2008. Not surprisingly, his popular brainchild, Metal Gear Solid, is responsible for this honor. He now holds two records; one for making the "first video game to fully utilize stealth as part of the gameplay" (Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation), and the second for having the biggest selling stealth game on the PS2, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Obviously, some may argue that MGS wasn't the first to use stealth as a gameplay element, but this record is clear that it's the first game to have it as the primary element.

Said Keith Pullin, Editor of the Guinness World Records: Gamers Edition 2008 book: "I would like to welcome Mr. Kojima to our family of gaming record breakers and we hope he breaks many more!" Kojima is the second game designer to get into the big book; the first was strategy guru Sid Meier.
