PSXE's Best Of The Best Polls Update: Final Fantasy VII Dominates
Okay guys, voting has officially ended for the first round of PSX Extreme's Best of the Best Poll: PS1 RPG. As just about anyone could've guessed, one game above all others ran away with it in the first round, and will most certainly do the same in the second round. But these are equal opportunity polls, so get over it. :)
For the final numbers, you can visit the official discussion thread in the forums, and kick off a spirited debate. They're always fun, right? Anyway, we now have the top 5 RPGs that have successfully made it into the second round, and will duke it out to determine the final results. In the spirit of the Olympics - and just 'cuz we don't think enough competitions hand out Gold, Silver and Bronze medals - we'll recognize the top three finishers. And the interesting part about this first poll is that the fifth and final spot was determined by a difference of only 2 votes! Here are the finalists and seedings for the second round:
1. Final Fantasy VII
2. Final Fantasy VIII
3. Final Fantasy IX
4. Final Fantasy Tactics
5. Chrono Cross
Yep, Chrono Cross beat out Xenogears by only two votes, and obviously, this is a total Final Fantasy sweep thus far. But it was also very close between CC and Final Fantasy Tactics, and another relatively close race between FFVIII and IX. The Gold is assured, but it'll be a battle to determine the other medals! Let Round 2 begin NOW! A total of 1301 votes were recorded for Round 1, let's see if we can get that number even higher as the series progresses. :)

Each of the characters after awhile just seem like carbon copies of someone else, with their special attacks being the only difference. Sprigg ( or w/e the old lady who dopplegangs name was ) was one of the only characters who was vastly different than the others IMO.
Although the story was good, i don't think it would have been that great if it wasnt for the story linking to the past Crono game. Its a story of 2 or 3 main characters and every other person just seems to be tagging along with their optional side stories you can partake in.
All of that said, i really loved Crono cross

It's not the kind of rpg which gives you an easy ride(FFX). It's more of a real OPEN rpg where you spend a lot of time traveling. While traveling you might lose track(connection) with the story. But that doesn't make the story less amazing. FFXII was a great entry, solid characters with lots of twists.
People should look past Vaan's vest and realize that no everyone has a great sense of clothing style.
Mind you i love FFX, but FFXII is right up there with it. Actually my fave 2 FFs of all time.

like i said before there were no real story events the judges would appear from time to time which would make it more intense but other than that it was rather plain. Look i love the FF series but this game was by far the biggest disappointment ive ever had from a game.

IMO FFVIII was just better in every way.
While FFVII focused solely on Cloud and Sephiroth, FFVIII focused on the whole party, making everyone in your party important.
I mean who really cared 'bout Yuffie or Cait Sith?
Though VII was a great game. I just think it gets this fame cause it was the first of its kind, 3D and all that jazz.

as for the whole party of FF8 being important, i cant agree with that (As much as i love the game.), There was no point in having Quistis in the party. The only interesting events with her was at the beginning in Ifirits cave & shooting the robot in Deling city. she could have easily been a non playable character like Cid.

Quistis mattered a lot in terms of her connections to the Garden, as well as being the voice of reason.
Though I do agree that sometimes she wasn't crucial, but she contributed in terms of giving her input on things.
I can barely remember when Yuffie, Cait Sith, Vincent, Red XIII gave any kind of useful information or that they mattered that much. You know it, I know it, FFVII was all 'bout Cloud and Sephiroth, nothing more nothing less(for the most part).

Id say all of them are better than Quistis, shes as dull as a blank and her story was over after dollet, at the beging of the game.FF8 Is probaly my favourite game but she was truely boring, the only other problem with FF8 is the orphanage scenes in disc 2, other that that its beautiful!
