PSXE's Best Of The Best Polls Update: Tekken 3 KOs Competition
The next phase of our PSX Extreme Best of the Best Poll series has come to a close, and after 1,128 votes in one week, you loyal readers have made it very clear: your choice for the best PS1 fighter is Tekken 3.
As many followers of the long-running franchise will probably tell you, the first two installments established the hardcore fan base, and the third hit just about every correct chord. The fighting mechanic was borderline flawless for the time, and those visuals were pretty damn good, too. In fact, this game occupies that lofty critic score plateau that only includes the likes of Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid in the 32-bit generation, and that's impressive. How many times did you hold a Tekken 3 party with a large group of friends on the weekends? How many of you were determined to learn every single move with one particular character? And once you did so, how many so desperately wanted to punish any n00b who had a masochistic desire to lose in embarrassing fashion? There's no doubt that this fighter spawned legions of new fans and secured millions of others for life.
Here are the final results for Best PS1 Fighter:
Gold Medal: Tekken 3
Silver Medal: Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Bronze Medal: WWF SmackDown!
Thing is, there was a downright crazy race for that second slot. WWF SmackDown! pulled away from Street Fighter Alpha 3 in the last few days, but came up just shy of passing Mortal Kombat Trilogy. The difference. 5 votes. So don't think for a second that your vote doesn't count! Anyway, we have now moved on to the next step- Best Action/Adventure, and as we are including platformers and FPS in this category, we're adopting the two-week format we used with the Best RPG category. So basically, we take the top 5 vote-getters for the first week, and then those five battle it out for the final medals.
Remember, you can always present and/or defend your opinion in the official Best of the Best Polls topic in our forums.

Also there needs to be a separate catagory for action & platforming games, Spyro & Metal Gear Solid classed in the same genre seems incorrect, Wheres Crash Bandicoot, you can miss out the Crash Bandicoot adventure trilogy!
