Ignore Portents Of Doom: Buy Games This Holiday Season!

Look, here's a general rule that few want to acknowledge these days: the media has such a profound impact on the proceedings of this country, that one could easily argue that the media elects every president and the media determines every economic upswing and downturn. This being the case, we at PSXE have some very simple advice for those who aren't aware of the obvious agendas on display by the biggest news services in the world.

Ignore them. Don't listen; don't read. We're not about to claim that times aren't tougher right now, and we're not about to order those who are struggling to go out there and spend money on luxuries they can't afford to lose. But the fastest way to continue an economic downward spiral is to tell those with the money to stop spending, which is essentially what every last "oh God, stocks fell again; we're all gonna die!" CNN story is saying. When those with the money who have continued to drive this economy forward over the years start to get spooked, and they execute a stranglehold on the money they have, everything is only going to get worse. Unemployment is nowhere near where it needs to be for us to hit a full-on depression, which means that - quite obviously - there are plenty of people out there who still have money to spend on the typical amenities. Therefore, if you have the means and if you would normally head out there and pick up a new console or a few new games this holiday season, do it. Don't run into a corner and hide in the wake of constant media hints, implications and flat-out opinions, and continue to play your part in rejuvenating the ailing economy.

And again, before we get all the replies from those who are simply too strapped ("yeah, easy for you to say," is what we'll hear), we remind you again- this public service announcement is designed expressly for those who are tightening up when they don't have to. It's completely counter-productive, and while the video game industry appears to be quite immune (so far) to the economic downturn, please don't do your part to prove that analysis false. We got a lot of awesome stuff this year, more awesome stuff is coming in 2009, and if you want the developers and publishers to have the resources they currently have for giving us this awesome stuff... Yeah, you know what to do. We understand it's hard to ignore the news, but do it anyway, and determine your own budget and your own savings schedule. Sure, put a little more away every month, or maybe pass on the desserts at dinner; that's all fine. But don't pull back the whole way if you don't have to. Just...don't.
