SCEE President David Reeves Announces Retirement
David ReevesIn big corporate news today, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, David Reeves, has announced his retirement.
Reeves will be stepping down on April 30, which will mark the conclusion of his 14-year tenure at Sony. His replacement will be the current Chief Marketing Officer, Andrew House, who has been at Sony for 19 years, splitting time between Sony Corporation, Sony Japan, Sony America, and coming soon, Sony Europe. After revealing his retirement, Reeves had this to say:
"It has been a wonderful ride with PlayStation. I never got to visit all 106 countries but managed 66. I have just two things to say on leaving: I want to thank all of those people who have supported SCEE and me personally in the past 14 years; you have been magnificent!"
We'll all miss Reeves, who has always been polite with the media and relatively forthcoming - as much as he could be, considering his lofty position - with the gaming public. Sony has gone through more than a few changes and alterations in 2009 already, although they probably didn't plan Reeves' retirement. Andrew House said:
"[I'm} delighted to return to the PlayStation fold and excited to take on this new challenge. I have strong ties to the interactive entertainment industry and I believe there is huge potential for further growth of our business in the Europe/PAL countries and regions, particularly in the area of networked entertainment."
And so, it's a changing of the guard across the pond, and we certainly hope SCEE continues to flourish under House's watchful eye. We at PSXE wish Reeves happy trails on a well-deserved break, and wish House all the luck in the world.
