Tetris lives on as THQ pick it up.

Apparently, third party developer THQ has picked up the rights to the Tetris series. The deal guarantees that the classic puzzle line will survive into the coming generation of consoles. The series will reportedly have installments appear on Playstation 2, X-Box and Game Boy Advance. This agreement took place between the Tetris Company, Blue Planet Software, and THQ itself. By the 2001 holiday season, THQ plans to release several Tetris installments on next generation consoles.

Jeff Lapin, the vice president and COO of THQ stated, "From ten minute break-time games on countless office cubicles to head-to-head Playstation competitions in living rooms across the globe, Tetris has defined puzzle gaming for over a decade on every game system. We are delighted to be partnering with Blue Planet Software as we prepare Tetris for the next wave of handheld and set-top technology, as well as the expanding online environment." Amen to that statement. Tetris has shaped not only puzzle games but videogames in general for a very long time, and gamers everywhere I'm sure are salivating to see what the next generation installments of the series show is in terms of gameplay.

THQ also has refusal rights to mediums such as the net, wireless, cellular, and PDA devices.
