E3 Predictions For Sony's Conference

Sony's E3 press conference is Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. PST (meaning 3:00 p.m. for everyone here on the east coast), and although we've heard about many huge games already, but that doesn't mean we won't see some surprises.

The PSP2

It just seems as if the circumstantial evidence is overwhelming; multiple sources have reported that such a concept certainly exists, and some industry insiders consider the PSP2 an inevitability. Furthermore, Sony has spoken out about the PSP Go, saying it was more of a litmus test or experiment, designed to test the consumer's likes and dislikes concerning digital hanheld media. Lastly, you may remember that the PSP Go was never meant to replace the PSP-3000; they coexisted for a reason. But you can bet that when the PSP2 is announced and finally launched, it will be the definitive portable for Sony.

Another financial rundown with the help of Sackboy

We will freely admit that despite the obvious importance of the financial and numbers update, which typically kicks off the conference, it's easily the most boring part of the show for gamers. But Sackboy helps to cutesy things up a bit, and with LittleBigPlanet 2 headed our way at the end of the year, it's very likely that SCEA boss Jack Tretton will enlist the little hero's help once again.

The unveiling of one major PlayStation 3 exclusive

While it will not be the exclusive we at PSXE know about, we have reason to believe that at least one new exclusive will be revealed, likely towards the end of Sony's conference. It may be entirely unexpected and it may also be a ways off, but it should certainly be a surprise. And just to clarify, we're referring to a game you wouldn't automatically anticipate, like Uncharted 3.

The Last Guardian

The timing seems just about right to learn a lot more. Unless the development process has hit a big snag, the developers should be ready to give us a new trailer - loaded with gameplay, we hope - and a release date. The surprise would be if they confirmed it for holidays 2010, but Sony may want to do exactly that to create a bad-ass Christmas trio that includes Gran Turismo 5 and LBP2. It's too early to hear anything about David Cage's new title (apparently entitled Horizon), but this one is long past due.

Absolutely nothing Final Fantasy-related

Square-Enix isn't bringing Final Fantasy Versus XIII to the show and we refuse to get our hopes up for Final Fantasy VII HD. Done.

Of course, now that we've made these predictions, none of them will come true. One of the popular rumors involves a new PlayStation 3 model of some kind and while we're not ruling out that possibility, we think the focus of the conference will be on the PSP2, along with PlayStation Move and 3D.
