AIAS Awards rev up; nominations are initiated.

Today, the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) announced the beginnings of the 4th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards. The awards are quite prestigious, and this year twenty-seven of the honors are to be handed out in the categories of craft, console, computer and online in March of 2001.

Nominations for the Achievement Awards are being accepted today through Friday, January 5; 5 pm PST. Information and nomination packets can now be obtained through an email request to the Academy, and can also be downloaded by using PDF file format at the Academy's website.

If a software product is to be nominated for the prestigious academy awards, it must be released (in finished product form) in North America between the dates of March 1, 2000 and December 31, 2000. The ten-month eligibility period is a relatively new addition to the awards, as they are due to the ceremonies being moved from being a fixture at the E3 show to the Game Developers conference in March. Next year however, titles should have the familiar twelve months to claim eligibility for the ceremonies.

The following is a list of the Academy's award categories:

The videogame industry's version of the Oscars is always much-anticipated, and I for one can't wait to see which memorable titles are named as the winners to these comprehensive categories.
