Point Blank 3 Preview
Namco's hugely popular Point Blank franchise will be receiving its third sequel for the Playstation. Along with Ridge Racer and Tekken, Point Blank stands somewhere between both games as one of Namco's most popular franchise. Being the fourth game to use the GunCon peripheral, Point Blank 3 should overcome it's predecessors in every way imaginable. The first Point Blank was a game that packed a ton of replay value and some incredibly fun gameplay to go along with it. Point Blank 2 was the same but had different shooting games, and even better gameplay. Thankfully Point Blank 3 is along development for the PSOne, and should be out sometime next year. Check out the screenshots of the game and continue to read the preview of what to expect.
You can pretty much expect the same visuals as the other two had, the pixilated structures may be improved, but I would say it will be a drastic and noticeable change. The screenshots show that a lot of vivid colors are displayed on the screen, and structures such as houses, balloons, dart boards, and even space ships. I can't tell you that the visuals for Point Blank 2 won't be spectacular, but there will definitely be nothing wrong with them.
If the game turns out to be very good, the gameplay would probably be the reason for that. For starters, the original Point Blank gameplay that you know will return with 80 new shooting games to play with one or two players, or you can go round-robin style and play with seven other people. Of course Dr. Don and Dan have returned to raise some hell, and some of the mini-games include a concert, where you have to shoot objects that are being thrown up in the air while the two doctors are playing on a piano and violin. Another one is outer-space, where you are in a space ship and the gravity has been turned off so everything in the ship is floating around, and what's flying around is red and blue target boards that need to be shot down. A funny shooting game is where you have to shoot Mokujin (the wooden character from Tekken series), as he performs different poses, the pose that is shown in square on top is the one that needs to be shot. And what seems to be the coolest addition in the 80 games is the return of Galaxian, instead of having a ship to shoot the aliens, you will use the GunCon (or controller) and shoot the appropriate space ship color, depending on what player number you are. Point Blank 3 is shaping up to be extremely good, with cameos done by a Tekken character (and maybe even more), a re-make of Galaxian, and 80 total new games for up to 8 players to compete, Point Blank 3 should be a great game when it launches sometime in 2001.
