WWF Smackdown! Preview
When Acclaim lost it's WWF license, I thought THQ was going to ruin all of their WWF games (no offense THQ). But I think they just made me shut my mouth and I doubt that I will ever bad mouth them again. What's the reason you ask, well I got one word for ya' Smackdown. What is Smackdown you ask, it's THQ's newest title that looks to make a huge impact in the world of wrestling games.
Running on a toned down version of the Japanese Dreamcast wrestling game Toukon Retsuden 4 (All Japan Pro Wrestling), WWF Smackdown's graphics look nearly perfect. They beat out Attitudes graphics in every way possible. The facial expressions definitely go to THQ's brawler. The backgrounds? No contest, that definitely also goes to Smackdown as well. In Acclaims last WWF title the crowd was very minimized in quantity. But that has changed in THQ's and Yuke's WWF Smackdown. The crowds literally fill the arena, and many of them also carry signs. Some signs say "Austin 3:16" or other say "we love Kain". The motion capturing, the facial expressions the detail in each of those aspects is what is so extraordinary in WWF Smackdown. That just shows the realism that THQ's title will carry graphically. And one quick final note, the Frame rate in Smackdown is expected to be very smooth.
I have always wanted a wrestling game that felt like a wrestling game, no something like, you pick your character, watch a little intro and fight. No! I want a game where a story line can develop between two opponents, the second opponent gets ticked off and jumps the first opponent and everything leads on from there. Well THQ will bring me something close to that. During a battle you can leave the arena g backstage and actually get attacked by someone besides your enemy. And the game is said to have dialog also, so prepare to play one of the most deepest and realistic wrestling game ever.
What all of THQ's WCW games lacked was play by play commentary. But it looks like that will be improved in their up coming WWF game. The game is said to have color commentary as well as play by play commentary.
WWF Smackdown is expected to have an updated roster and will feature 35 wrestlers as well as a Create a Player mode so you can add to the roster. Chris Jericho and Paul Wight are supposed to be included in the roster as well. And let's not forget Vince McMahon and Shane McMahon who are making there videogame debuts.
WWF Smackdown will be available this March 2000, make sure to pick it up.
