Scheduled release date:

November '99

Once again Midway is stepping away from the head to head fighting and using action gaming to keep its well known franchise alive. Mortal Kombat: Special Forces is an action game that uses Mortal Kombat style fighting in a 3D environment to spice up the gameplay. If you tried Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub Zero, do not expect to see the same lame release.

This is where the Mortal Kombat story starts and some confusion begins. Story takes place before the original Mortal Kombat. Sonya and Jax are the two characters who just meet and through the storyline they come across their enemy Kano for the first time. It is still to be decided if minor characteristics are going to exist to make the storyline correct. For example, Jax didn't have metal arms until MK2 but removing them will take away from his character.

Gameplay is very close to the Tomb Raider games. Sonya and Jax can swim, climb, use guns, jump, and sneak around. Fighting is something Lara Croft didn't get to do in Tomb Raider series that is added in this game. Like many of the action games, you will enter stages and come across enemy fighters. After a long trip through each area expect to see a boss who is waiting to spill you guts. Speaking of spilling, a lot of blood will be spilled in this game leaving the MK fans very happy.

John Tobias and his crew at Midway have been working on this title for a year already, but it was a big secret until now. Although November is set to be the release date, not much is known because Midway is very tight on the information in this case. We will try to update this preview as soon as possible and get you the PSX screenshots once they are available.
