Alundra 2 Preview
It looks like like next year it will be one of the Playstation's best years. Companies like Square and Sony are revealing their RPG's, and now Activision has joined the party. Just last week Activision bought the publishing rights to Alundra 2 (except in Japan and a few Asian countries). If you have played the first Alundra you would now that the game resembled the 16 Bit Zelda title. And it also played a lot like it too. Although being published by a different publisher, Alundra 2 still manages to be developed by Matrix and produced my Contrail.
The couple of screen shots I have seen look great. Very fine detail in the graphics as well as some other areas, but mainly the game has gone through the biggest change. Instead of being it 2D it is now completely 3D. Alundra 2 takes advantage of an all new real time, fully polygonal 3D engine, which will immerse players through an Action/RPG title that will last you over 40 hours. The backgrounds or the level design is excellent, the scenarios are very rich with color and they look exceptional. And a final note on the graphics section, the lighting effects. Alundra 2 features great lighting effects, and excellently detailed explosions.
Remember this is not a complete RPG, but it also has Action elements as well. There are no random encounters where you are taken into another dimension. Nothing like that in Alundra 2, your enemies will be seen and you decide to fight them or just keep going and chicken out. As well as having the ability to avoid battles you can also Climb, Jump, Swim, and explore beautifully designed areas like a volcano and underground cavern, and a sunken ship.
Activision also claims that Alundra 2's "addictive gameplay and technological advancements will captivate hard-core gamers and casual adventurers alike". I have also found out that Alundra 2 will feature 10 mini-games integrated into the games overall story line. I only wonder what type of mini-games. To top it all of in Alundra 2 you take the role of a young renegade, Flint. He is on a mission to destroy the Baron and stop his reign of terror.
Alundra 2 is slated for a Spring 2000 release my guess around April. You have to make sure to put this one on your "games to get list"
