Hands on Update
Guess what folks, we have just received a short playable demo of Spiderman! I may sound rational but it is by far the most exciting adventure game I have played in years. The demo is in its early stages and it shows, because the it was only about 5 minutes long (but it was the best 5 mins I have ever experienced, in a videogame). Visually the web head looks marvelous, you can definitely leave it to Neversoft to create one magnificent looking game. Everything about Spiderman has been remarkably reproduced on videogame format. The body structure is exactly how you would see it in the cartoon, except for the fact that it is in 3D.
Speaking of 3D, Spiderman's navigation system is without a doubt the best in any adventure game thus far. Like Tony Hawk, you can literally explore every single area in Spiderman's surroundings. Point towards that building or the place you want to go to, jump in the air and let your web carry you. As for the environments go, it really looks like the great people of Neversoft are really making Spiderman and his setting mimic the cartoon.
Now that gameplay and graphics have been semi-established, what about the sound? To make Spiderman even more close to the cartoon, Neversoft went out of their way and inserted sound clips of Peter Parker's real voice. Along with Parker's voice, so far I heard the Cat's voice, and I know for sure that there will be more, maybe Venom, Kingpin, Lizard, and Mysterio.
So far Spiderman is shaping up to be one of the year's biggest and best games. If Activison/Neversoft continue their streak of success, they may very well be the two leading publishers/developers the PS has seen. Spidey is currently scheduled to be released this Spring of 2000.
