Ms. Pac-Man: Maze Madness Preview
Last Fall Pac Man made his first appearance in the 3 dimensional world. Critics were very positive about the game, but sales weren't as good as Namco expected them to be. But average sales figures aren't going to stop Namco from producing another Pac game, though this time the Ms. will be doing all the ghost goblin. Already heavy into the development for the PS2, it seems as if Namco has no plans on abandoning the original PS just yet, first they announced that Time Crisis: Project Titan is in the works, now Ms. Pac Man's 20 year sleep ends, as she is going to follow up Pac Man World. The game is currently scheduled for an October release and will sport and MSRP of $29.95.
Currently Ms. Pac Man: Maze Madness is at an extremely early stage (alpha) of development and Namco says to expect the visuals to receive a huge boost as the game arrives later this year. Currently the visuals aren't so bad, they need a slight polish in few areas, but for the most part they are decent. I wonder how much change the final version will see. It looks like Maze Madness uses Pac Man World's engine, it is pretty safe to say this since the engine was quite good and fast, but with Namco you never know. Ms. Pac Man: MM looks very promising so far, the visuals are quite good at the games early rate and I am anxious to see the final result.
To kick things off, let me start out by saying that every PS owner should get their Multi-Taps ready. Yep, Ms. Pac Man will be a four player title, there will be two multiplayer modes. One is the Ghost Tag, this is where one player is Ms. Pac Man and the other three are ghosts chasing her, keep in mind the Ms. can also get power-ups so she can kick some ass. Dot Mania is a race to gobble up the most dots, the one who does that is obviously the winner. Single player mode includes over 180 puzzles to gobble dots on. Finally, Ms. Pac Man includes four worlds, 12 stages, 4 secret ones and about three bonus levels, 15 new characters, a boss and a secret boss round. Namco is really going all out to make this the best puzzler to run under the Pac license.
As I said before Ms. Pac Man is expected to be released this October with a very healthy and affordable MSRP of $29.95. In my opinion I think that this will be by far the best Pac title yet, Ms. Pac Man was the best Pac title back in its day, and it looks like history will repeat itself.
