Dino Crisis 2 Preview
Capcom's huge spin-off from Resident Evil sold quite well late last year. Dino Crisis was one of 1999's more eagerly anticipated games, it was received very well by everybody and there weren't many cold shoulders given. There was not one doubt in my mind that another Dino Crisis would be released soon. During the E3 show where DC2 was shown playable, I was rather surprised to see it in an interactive form. Regina will be back for her second dino killing frenzy, and this time around she will be in areas where dinos would be common to spot.
Dino Crisis 2 will yet again run on the same engine that powered the first DC. Regina's appearance has not changed at all, she is still wearing the same leather skin tight clothes from DC1. The locales will be different this time, instead of office buildings you will be hunting dinos down in jungles, rain forests and other tropical areas. Pre-rendered backgrounds will re-appear in DC2, it was no surprise really. The detail overall isn't anything new, DC2 wasn't the best looker in the Capcom booth mainly because its visual concept is getting very old.
Straying away far away from the RE series and the first Dino Crisis, DC2 will feature much faster action than its predecessor. Instead of avoiding confrontation between you and the dino you have to engage. Killing dinos quickly and in style gives you combo points, and combo points lead to rewards! That is a huge twist to the whole RE franchise. Taking slight cue from Syphon Filter, Regina can also use a taser to kill approaching dinos, this is quite the handy tool. Dino Crisis 2 is shaping up to be better than any RE title that the PS has seen, the new things that Capcom is doing, are great touches. Right now Dino Crisis 2 is slated for an October 2000 release and we'll keep you updated as new info arises. For now check out the available screenshots that were released at the E3 Expo.
