When Spyro made his debut last year, he was excepted quite nicely. He acted as Sony's newest mascot, and his game entitled Spyro the Dragon was Sony's answer to Nintendo's Banjo-Kazooie. The game had it's share of flaws, but it excelled in it's visuals and delivered some super smooth graphics that nobody has ever seen on the PSX. After quite some time the sequel was announced, we waited and waited for Spyro's second title and now it's finally here. Find out how it fared in the graphics, gameplay, and how long will this little title will last you.

Spyro's return features nicely improved visuals. Like the previous title, this year Spyro also has some colorful looking backgrounds as well as great looking textures. This time around Spyro is even more detailed than before. Last years Spyro featured very good graphics, and minimal exhibition of polygons. But this year's title features no almost no show of polygons as well as improved graphics. Basically Spyro 2 excels graphically in areas the original didn't.

The first Spyro had a pretty shallow story. Spyro's relatives were frozen by the Nasty Norg. Now it was all up to Spyro to rescue them. The game did feature some dialog, but mostly during the rescue of the dragon. The sequel now delivers an excellent story, which starts out as Spyro going on his vacation with his companion Zippo. On his way to the vacation spot, Spyro was summoned by two residents of Avalar. They were looking for a dragon to fight against Ripto, but instead they got Spyro. Spyro was underestimated at first, but later on he showed everybody his new skills like swimming, climbing, flying, throwing rocks out of his mouth, spitting bubbles underwater, and hovering. As well as having new skills Spyro also has powerups, like flying, super speed burst, super fire breath , super bubble blowing underwater and tons of other powerups. Spyro 2 greatly improves over the first creation into being one of the years best adventure games.

Unlike the the first Spyro, Spyro 2 has tons of dialog filled with great voice acting. Every level features excellent dialog, with excellent voice acting, playing Spyro 2 almost makes me feel like I'm watching a Disney cartoon. You will never experience any break up in the dialog, or the tunes.

The control is somewhat the issue in the game. The cameras may have needed a little more touching upon. They move way to fluidly, and playing the game can at times feel like you are playing a first person with average cameras. Although the cameras are not what I expected them to be, you eventually get used to them. Like many other great adventure games Spyro has his share of common moves. Pressing X makes Spyro jump, holding it makes him jump higher, Square does the Horn charge, O makes Spyro spit fire, Triangle is for first person look around.

In conclusion, Spyro's new improvements make his sequel a lot more enjoyable. Last year Spyro was mainly compared to Banjo-Kazooie. This year the title will be compared to Nintendo's Donkey Kong 64. Both games feature nearly perfect graphics, great story, and amusing gameplay. Never the less Spyro: Ripto's Rage! Is an excellent title that deserves all the praise it can get.
