Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back Review
Crash 2 improves over the original in many ways. It has better graphics, better sound, and much improved gameplay. For fans of the original game, this one is a must have.
Crash 2 starts off with a very smooth and graphically beautiful cinema scene explaining what happened since the previous game. Since Crash 1, Dr. Cortex has gathered together his thoughts and decided to try and make a time machine. He needs the 25 slave crystals, so his plan is to try and trick Crash into getting them for him. This opening cinema is just your first taste of the graphical marvel that Naughty Dog managed to pull off. Even today, this game still stands among the best of them in graphics. Another improvement with this game is the sound quality. In Crash 1, the voices skipped and sounded fake. In this game though, the voice acting is completely smooth and the voice actors sound like they were actually paid this time. The biggest improvement and best quality of this game is the gameplay. There are 25 main levels and 5 extra levels, along with many hidden levels to strengthen the length. Also to add to the task of getting 100% completion, is collecting all of the gems. There is a main gem on each level, along with a special colored gem in each five levels. The developers at Naughty Dog have also obviously learned and tweaked the control in Crash 2. If some of you have played Crash 1, you remember how hard it was to make some of the jumps. Well, in this game, the jumps are not so impossible to make. The music is also much improved because it doesn't skip and seems to go along with the environment.
I think that for anyone who has ever enjoyed any platform game, this game should be a must have for you. It has great graphics, sound, and gameplay. Definitely one of the best platform games of all time.
