Lately DreamWorks has been rolling out great videogames. First it was Medal of Honor, which was one of the best titles in '99, then it was Warpath: Jurassic Park, which was a beautifully detailed fighter with an average gameplay. But now I do not know what they were thinking when they published BoomBots. Judging by the title you can tell that this is a fighting game with robots, but these robots aren't the type you see in Terminator or RoboCop, hell NO! These robots are wacky stupid and are as shallow as a robot can get. Keep reading why BoomBots maybe a Playstation gamers worst nightmare.

Warpath, was a gorgeously designed masterpiece with tons of detail and lush colors. But BoomBots is noting like that, the game has the most ugliest graphics the PS has ever seen, I almost wanted to cry, because the detail on the backgrounds was so grainy that I thought somebody in the office was cutting a whole bag of onions at the same time. The player detail is jaggy and cheap, it seems to me that developer spent no time trying to make this game look in any way impressive. Although the game does have CGs but compared to CGs found in Final Fantasy 8 and Resident Evil 3, BoomBots CGs look like something an N64 cartridge was doing. BoomBots definitely leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, the game needs more polish and in the end the graphics look like something that I can pull out of my @$$.

With games like Ehrgeiz, Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Tekken 3 on the PSX, BoomBots just has no place here. It is by far the most boring title I have yet to experience. The characters are boring and shallow, and the CGs are not even amusing at all. It does feature a variety of characters but all of them feel the same. BoomBots' one player is not only cheesy and stale, but it's not even worth your time. The game doesn't even randomize character battles, you just fight the same pattern of characters over and over again. BoomBots has over 15 characters to choose from and a stage for each character. I really can't find anything good about this game, and in my book this would qualify as one of the worst games out there. Be careful and watch out for this game and make sure a store clerk doesn't persuade you into buying this game. Not only does BoomBots have uninspired graphics but is has awful gameplay, tedious characters and the story has no depth either.

This probably the only good thing about BoomBots, its sound. Compared to the rest of the game BoomBots' sound is not bad, the quality is so-so and the clarity in speech is somewhat hard to understand. The tunes are beyond belief annoying and so is the announcer. Its sound almost sounds like an early generation SNES game. There is a little dialogue involved but as I said before it is not amusing.

The control is something that I do not want to talk about, it is as lousy and poor as the graphics and gameplay. Although the game is analog compatible the dual shock support left me hanging. It is supported so poorly, the vibration feels like a vibration from an N64 rumble pak with weak batteries. The control itself is horrid, all of the fighters have the same functions like a rocket (which is nothing that you think it is), a machine gun, and a homing rocket. The rockets when explode look so dull and the explosions sound sounds horrible.

To end all of the havoc that I made my PSX go through, I scratched the game as bad as a rental from Blockbuster, then I snapped the disk in half and threw it out of the window. To summarize this review with a few words: BoomBots feels like an old Super Nintendo game, the graphics are stale and the gameplay is shallow, please stay away from this game if you know what is good for you.
