European modchip production halted

It has been reported that Sony has won a civil judgment against ChannelTechnology, creators of the 'Messiah' modchip for the Playstation 2. The decision was based on article 296 of British law which involves devices used to circumvent copyright protection. The case has led to the complete halting of production from ChannelTechnology and compensatory damages awarded to Sony. The company has been ordered to pay 45000 pounds ($63,450) in legal costs and 15000 pounds ($21,150) in compensation to Sony. Although these specific European modchips are no longer available, an assortment of underground modchips have been surfacing.
