Sony says "Not so Fast" to the region 1 trick.
After last week's reports that the PS2 has the ability to play Region 1 DVD titles, Sony quickly updated their newest shipment of DVD drivers and they are now only Region 2 playable. Regions are standards which the video industry works with, where Region 1 and Region 2 represent the US and Japanese standards respectably.
Distributing new DVD drivers is not a problem since they are loaded using a CD into the memory cards. From now on, every new PS2 unit that is sold will be packaged with the 1.01 version of the DVD driver. By the way if anybody is wondering how to play Region 1 DVDs on PS2, just hold UP on the ORIGINAL PS controllers (no analog, no dual shock, not 3rd party) and you should be able to play Region 1 DVDs. Note: Not all DVDs work, some show a black screen, some just don't start up.
