E3 2002: Enter the Matrix
Infogrames has recently announced that the Matrix title being developed by Shiny is scheduled for multi-platforms. The game will hit the Playstation 2, Xbox, GameCube, and PC, as it is now officially titled Enter the Matrix. It was previously announced that the game would be exclusive to the Xbox for the first six months of release. This was agreed upon through a $5 million deal with Interplay; however, the game is now scheduled for a simultaneous release with the film The Matrix Reloaded, hitting theatres next year. Shiny reportedly made a sale of $47 million to Infogrames for the rights to Enter the Matrix.
"The Matrix redefined the action genre for the film industry and movie audiences, and the never-before-seen gameplay and technology behind Enter The Matrix will redefine next-generation video games," said Bruno Bonnell, Infogrames' CEO. "There has been extensive creative crossover that has taken place in the development of the film and the game."
As you may recall, Infogrames bought Interplay and their inevitable gaming rights earlier this year. Due to this fact, the deal Microsoft made with the company became irrelevant and very costly to the Xbox. It is uncertain how this transaction will exactly affect Microsoft's investment, but Sony certainly has to be pleased with the information.
Infogrames will not be showing Enter the Matrix at E3, but it will have the first official movie trailer for both The Matrix Reloaded and the third movie, The Matrix Revolutions.
