E3 2002: Grand Theft Auto exclusive to PS2
Sony Computer Entertainment America announced today an exclusive deal with Take-Two Interactive that will make the Grand Theft Auto franchise exclusive to the Playstation 2. The deal will carry through October 2004 and covers all future installments of the series. This signing takes place after Grand Theft Auto 3 was released for the PC and now puts the future of PC versions in jeopardy. This deal also puts to rest any hopes Microsoft had with the GTA series for the next two years. Previous rumors hinted at the possibility of GTA games being developed for Microsoft, but SCEA has firmly put a stop to it.
Grand Theft Auto 3 is the most successful PS2 title to date and the recent company agreement will greatly aid in the present console wars. PSX Extreme has detailed the upcoming Rockstar title, GTA: Vice City, so please take a look.
