E3 2002: Official Network Adapter details
Sony Computer Entertainment America unveiled the details of its online plans for its Network Adaptor and confirmed its upcoming release this summer. SCEA's president, Kaz Hirai, announced the official details concerning online gaming. The Network Adaptor will ship to retail stores on August 27, 2002 for a price of $39.99. The Network adaptor fits into the port on the back of PS2, and all you need is a nickel or an average screwdriver to plug in the adaptor. The Network Adapter package includes a Start-Up disc and introductions to several online carriers, including AOL, Earthlink, AT&T SBC, and Sympatico.
Sony also revealed the full list of online-enabled games that will launch alongside the hardware. They include Twisted Metal: Black Online, NFL Gameday '03, My Street, Frequency 2, Tribes: Aerial Assault, TimeSplitters 2, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, NFL 2K3, NBA 2K3, and NCAA College Basketball 2K3.
SCEA did not mention anything about the 2003 Hard Disc Drive in its press conference. The HDD is unofficially scheduled to be released in 2003 and allows players to download 40 Gigabytes of data to the storage device.
