E3 2002: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 impressions
As soon as I hit Activision's booth, the one game I knew I had to get my hands on was Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4. Having picked a skater and a level, I begun playing. There isn't really too much to say, other than the fact that the visuals have been touched up and look quite smoother and there were no jaggies or flickering present to disturb the eyes and ruin the crystal image. The game plays identically to the third, or as far as I could tell. The one stage I was ripping was The Zoo.
It's quite a huge level filled with the good stuff that all THPS levels deliver. This time around though, in some cases the civilians will detail the objectives to you. One person asks you to find his golden letters SKATE, which he says he lost. Then of course there are typical objectives such as scores, and running into something interactive, thus creating a reaction (like knocking over garbage cans). The controls are of course perfect as always, and I don't believe I can draw any negative feedback. Even the online kiosk over at Sony's booth player well. THPS4 is scheduled for a Fall 2002 release, and will be once again online compatible.
