GTA: Vice City receives 4 million pre-orders
As Grand Theft Auto 3 passes the 7 million copies sold mark for the Playstation 2 and PC, totaling almost $350 million, is it really any wonder that GTA: Vice City is possibly the most anticipated game of the year? Heck, the game itself outsold the entire box office for Forrest Gump and is approaching the likes of Jurassic Park. GTA: Vice City may just possible be the game that will be rarely seen on retail shelves. It has been estimated that as many as 4 million copies of the game have been pre-ordered and it has also been figured that GTA: Vice City will outsell GTA3 by 25 percent; if this isn't absolutely insane, I don't know where you come from.
"We fully expect it to be the biggest game of the year," said Pete Roithmayr, vice president of games merchandising for retailer Electronics Boutique Holdings Corp. "I would expect it to be an extremely difficult title to find if you don't pre-buy, at least initially." "Now that word of mouth is out there, the initial sales figures are going to be huge," said Dan Hsu, the editor of leading fan magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly. "It's just going to blow away
everything at retail."
We'll continue to cover GTA: Vice City, as the release date is set at October 29.
