EA consolidates studios

Electronic Arts announced today that it is consolidating its Los Angeles, Irvine, and Las Vegas studios to form a new Los Angeles campus. With this consolidation, Westwood Studios will close immediately, translating into about 100 layoffs. The majority of workers have already been offered transfer options, as EA still has plans to support and create new content for Earth & Beyond, despite the closure.

“In the fourth quarter, EA will begin the consolidation of our Los Angeles, Irvine and Las Vegas studios into a major game development studio in Los Angeles. Once complete, we will have major centralized studio operations in Vancouver, British Columbia; Redwood Shores, Walnut Creek, and Los Angeles, California; Orlando, Florida; Tokyo, Japan; and Chertsey, United Kingdom."

We’ll continue to cover this story over the next few weeks.
