NHL 2001 confirmed for launch and new details on NBA Live 2001.

To a big surprise, EA Sports announced that NHL 2001 finished the Sony testing cycle earlier than expected and is now officially a launch title. The game will ship on October 23rd, and in some stores may be put on shelves before the 26th. To-date EA/EA Sports has six launch games which makes them the biggest supporter that Sony has.   In a related story, Electronic Arts also revealed some details on its upcoming Playstation 2 basketball title, NBA Live 2001. The game is said to be quite comprehensive, with an addition enabling the player to control post-up moves. The game's executive producer, Stan Chow, stated, "Gameplay and physics-wise, we think NBA Live 2001 is the most complete basketball game ever. He also declared his belief in the game's details and realism, stating, "We think that users will love the new inside moves and the NBA challenge. We are also very happy with the new transitions, color commentary, and play-by-play, and we think this [will] give users the sensation of being not only at an NBA game, but also on the court firing jumpers with the pros." The title looks good so far, and we'll see if it can stand up to Chow's lofty predictions.
